ROYCE INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING for nonpayment of music royalties

Understood, but who has plenty of cash for those sized markets and needs coverage there? If I'm gambling (which I don't..) EMF is a likely buyer.

The Palm Springs market station really only covers the west valley, which is predominantly Hispanic. The San Francisco station covers next to nothing. Don't know about the third one. But that does not seem to be a useful acquisition.

In the Palm Springs market there are several stations for sale at very low prices that have full valley coverage. And the SF facility gains them nothing useful.

I used to lease a subcarrier on the 92.7 signal and it had better building penetration in downtown SF than anything. It even beat the big signals on Sutro and San Bruno. But I see they've since moved from Russian Hill out to Candlestick Point. Not sure what it's like from there, but it's still 6KW in a very desnely populated area. Plus, SF is in a shadow for EMF's 107.3 signal so I could see where 92.7 would be a good addition coverage-wise for them.

The EMF suggestion is excellent.

Otherwise, it does a 60 dbu over 2 million people in a market of 6 million. It just can't get traction with that tiny signal. Were it in San Jose, a quasi-separate embedded market, it might be different... but as it is, it's just not going to be viable unless it can find a niche that is attractive to a class of advertisers.

KLOVE has 97.7 to cover San Jose/the South Bay, if I believe their coverage map.

Stating the obvious, EMF will sometimes have multiple signals in a market, as they already do on the Peninsula.

Not going to be EMF.... way too much liability risk to them... will be another organization

If there is an asset sale from the court-appointed receiver, there should be no legal issue once FCC approval is granted. The receiver would have to include guarantees regarding compensation if Mr Lawsuit takes action. But he is getting on in years and may call it quits.

Of course, EMF is based in the Sacramento market and they should know from up close how ornery he can be to deal with.

The receiver can guarantee current action - but not a blanket coverage against future nuisance actions ? I’m guessing EMF would weigh potential legal costs at high enough to pass.... this will go to another NCE

I "know" a party who looked at the Palm Springs market station. First, it is associated with you-know-who. Second, third, fourth and fifth: same thing. Sixth, signal comes from far eastern side of the market and is not great where most of the population is. Seventh, this is a horrible radio market.

You’re the local so won’t argue 7, but Palm Springs is the runt of this litter...

The signal is coming from far to northeast of the market... overlooking agricultural land, in fact. It does not get a 60 dbu to Cathedral City, and the 65 dbu hits Palm Desert. So it misses Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, etc. That is at least a third of the population, and more than half the English dominant population.

It would not even make a good Spanish language station as it is not good in Cathedral City, which is 75% or more Hispanic. In such an over-crowded market, having a deficient signal is a real disadvantage.

Keep in mind that the market is over 55% Hispanic now, and it is over 30% Spanish dominant.
