RTN coming to 8.2 (Tampa TV - not radio topic)

I noticed a promo on 8 saying they are replacing NBC's now closed WeatherPlus channel on OTA 8.2 with Retro TV Network. (BrightHouse channel 607). With the cut-backs in 8's weather department and at MediaGeneral, this is probably an inexpensive choice and give us something else to watch. I have friends in another state that like the channel and say it is actually more like the original TVLand before CBS/Viacom/MTV screwed up that channel.

beat me to the punch. looks like it will be some fun to watch.

Now if Brighthouse can only tell me how to hook up the component aspect of my new insignia hdtv, because hdmi is not the "preferred" method of watching hdtv.....

didnt know there was such a thing as "preferred" way to get hd lol.

Preferred? By who, Brighthouse? The only reason they would not prefer HDMI is because component cables are much cheaper and they don't want to give HDMI cables away.

Using component, you're doing a digital-to-analog conversion out of the set-top box and an analog-to-digital conversion in the TV. Each conversion degrades picture quality in general, and the D/A converters in the boxes usually are of low quality.

Having said that, on a fairly basic TV like an Insignia you won't see much difference. If you had something high-end like a Pioneer Elite, Samsung 750 or 850 series, Sony XBR, Panasonic 800 or 850 series, you'd see more of a difference (but those cost 3-5 times what you paid).

Hooking up the component part shouldn't be hard, it's just matching colors on the jacks...

It'll be interesting to see if this comes to fruition tomorrow as promised. Saturday, WFLA (Ch. 8 ) promo'ed the hell out of this new programming. This morning, I read a blurb on an industry website that said Retro TV Network has run out of money and pulled the plug over the weekend. I've had the TV on 8 most of the day today, and I haven't seen a single promo for the new channel.

Not saying or implying anything ... just that I'll be curious to see what's actually on tomorrow.

It's all being discussed here:

And the problem is that RTN's contract with Equity to carry the service from Little Rock has expired, and RTN's owners refuse to renew. The official websites for RTN has also been disconnected.

Many stations already affiliated with RTN, practically those not owned by Equity, are falling back on back-up programming provided by RTN, primarily for use for satellite outages.

If the impasse between RTN and Equity is not solved soon, WFLA, at worst, will practically say "forget what you saw here", give up the cable slots, and never mention it again.

Did tbo.com had anything about RTN? As of 12 Midnight 1/5 (late night 1/4), there's no mention of it. I take it that WFLA had practically washed their hands of the whole thing.

I'm watching that channel now, I think. It says weather something on the ch. guide, but the channel is airing The A-Team. The Retro network Web site is down, so I don't know if this is the network...
