RTV to air Retro Saturday Morning Cartoons block

Finally, something worth watching on Saturday morning besides paid programming and a rehash of Friday night's news casts. Hope they bring back Speed Buggy!

Wasn't Lassie a black-and-white live action show? And what about EI content? Or will RTV stations have to supply it themselves to children?

If I'm not mistake RTV's EI programming airs during the week. During the brief period from June 09 until October 09 when the network was running 6 hours a day on WSAH Channel 43 in Bridgeport, CT I remember them carrying EI programming from RTV in the 7AM Hour.

While the schedule has not yet been finalized, it will include some of the following shows: Lassie, Rocky & Bullwinkle, He-Man, She-Ra, Casper, Richie Rich, The Archies, Ghostbusters, Fat Albert, Mr. Magoo and The Lone Ranger.
So now He-Man, She-Ra, and Filmation's Ghostbusters are going to air on RTV and qubo.

I remember when WGN used to air this show back in the 80s.

LET'S GO GHOSTBUSTERS!!

;D

If you are talking about the 50's TV show, yes, it was B&W live action. Not a cartoon and no animation.

I believe it aired on most, if not all, of the Tribune-owned indies. I know it aired on WPIX/New York.

I wonder if This TV is going to start airing reruns of "The Real Ghostbusters" in response to this move... ::)

The news article I linked at the top of this topic says E/I programming will be moved to Monday-Friday, 8-9 a.m. Also I would like to note that that news article says this block will start airing in the 4th quarter of 2010 and will air from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Cool! I might have to check out RTV on Saturday mornings now; although I don't think Speed Buggy would air on RTV because it airs regularly on Boomerang, plus Speed Buggy is a Hanna Barbera show so most of those rights are held by Turner/Boomerang.

Richie Rich? the only Richie Rich I know of is the 80's version and that airs on Boomerang, unless there was another Richie Rich cartoon that aired.

Re Lassie....there *was* a cartoon series called "Lassie's Rescue Rangers" in the late 60s or early 70s. Certainly more forgettable than the TV series of 1954-74 or so.....but, there was also a short-lived revival sometime in the 90s I think which had a grown-up Jon Provost (who originally played Timmy).

As to RTV, I cannot receive it anymore....but it would not surprise me if they only had about 6 episodes of each of the shows! Okay, okay....maybe less.

The article might also refer to "Lassie's Rescue Rangers", a 1973-1975 animated series from Filmation. Considering that Classic Media owns both the Lassie franchise and the Filmation library, anything can happen.

Not to be confused with "Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers" from the old "Disney Afternoon" block...

Lassie's Rescue Rangers aired on ABC. WPVI-6 Phila. preempted it for quite a while for local discussion programs until (I think) ABC moved it to a different time slot. This then-12/13 year old agrees, looking back, LRR was lousy, as was The Brady Kids (also from Filmation), which WPVI also preempted for a while.

RTV has been running The Archies during weekdays for quite a while. this includes the original series from the 60s, Archies Funhouse from 1970, and the one that flopped called U.S of Archie. Missing are the one hour versions, which I've read was carved up for syndication and many of the music elements were cut out. The original uncut versions are presumed lost. This was the one that had the segments with Sabrina and the Groovie Goulies. This was the one that I grew up with.
Filmation also had some other popular shows such as Tarzan, and the animated Gilliagans Island. I'd like to see those again. I was never a big fan of the 80's toy commerical type cartoons, but anything would better than the crap thats airing on saturday these days.
According ot Wikipedia, the filmation library was bought by Halmarkmark who transfered the original film mastesr to video and apparantly tossed the originals. Dumb move, since making new HD copies will be impossible. the tapes halmark made were in standard definition in the PAL format for European tv.

That may be a blessing - DVD already reveals some of the clumsy cel handling that exists even on "classic" cartoons; full HD might have more analog artifacts (fingerprints, paint blobs, etc.) than digital. It's almost better to have the SD masters upconverted and retouched - it might not be true to the original, but it'll be *watchable*...

Well, at least the Goolies fans will always have that song "Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)", which was based on a song originally written for the show.
