RTV to air Retro Saturday Morning Cartoons block

I was wondering how they were going to show "Mr MaGoo"? If it was the old one from when I was a kid, that would be very politically UNcorrect now. You'd have to edit it to shreds to show it.

Still I miss the opening "Road Hog"....:)

No. Its a show about a blind man. The blind people would have a cow. Like they did when they did the live action movie several years ago. What I can't figure out, if your blind you can't see it anyway. \
Porky Pig is out, you don't want to offend people that stutter. Yosemite Sams camel riding bit is out, offensive to Arabs. Speedy Gonzales is offensive to Mexicans (actually they don't care, it just the PC crowd that makes all the noise). Mammy 2 shoes from Tom and Jerry is offensive to blacks, so what can you watch anymore? the test pattern? oh wait, their is an Indian on the test pattern so that won't work either. Never mind.

I think most of the standalone groovy goulies still exist. Its just the Archie Comedy Hour that had some of the musical numbers and the wrap around segments that were used after the commercials. The Musical section for Sugar Sugar still exists. its on youtube. I would love to see the original uncut Archie Hour again. All of the Archie shows had cheap reused animation but the bubblegum music was always cool. Especially to this then 7 year old. Whoever cut out the music was an idiot. the music was the best part. it was a show about a band anyway. I think The 30 minute Archie Show and Archie Funhouse is pretty much intact. I don't know about the show where they were running a TV station, I haven't seen that one in years (I didn't think it was all that good)

I'd really like to see Uncle Croks Block starring Charles Nelson Reilly. I loved that show when I was 12. It was canceled after only a few episodes and hardly anyone remembers it. it was sort of like SNL for kids. Really off the wall. I've also heard that most of the tape for that show is also missing. Except for a few cartoon segments. its a shame people didn't care enough to save these old tapes. Once they are gone they are gone forever.

From: http://www.cynopsis.com/editions/kids/081010/
Luken Communications, a Chattanooga, Tennessee based company that operates RTV (Retro Television Network), unveils plans to launch a new kid and baby boomer-targeted network (title TBA). So far Luken has acquired a mix of animated and live-action series from Classic Media and other libraries for the network, including Richie Rich, Casper, The Lone Ranger, Mr. Magoo, Secret of Isis, Zorro, Shazam and Lassie, as well as shorts such as Dick Tracy and Fraidy Cat. Luken reports that affiliate deals are in the works and plans to make further announcements later this year.
So looks like RTV's Retro Saturday Morning Cartoons block will be the start of a new Retro Kids network.

If you ask me, John Candy's live action/animated children's show "Camp Candy" should have had all of its master tapes destroyed much sooner...

Wasn't there a live-action "Mr. Magoo" movie with Leslie Nielsen that caused an uproar among the PC crowd?
BTW, Mr. Magoo is nearsighted, not blind, but I guess he's too vain to do anything about it. (I'm nearsighted
myself, wear glasses, and have never been offended by Mr. Magoo in the least.) I think it was John Hubley,
one of Magoo's creators, who once said that the humor in Magoo is not because of his eyesight but because
he's a stubborn, crotchety character who can never admit he's wrong, and that most every family has someone
like that.

According ot Wikipedia, the filmation library was bought by Halmark who transfered the original film mastesr to video and apparantly tossed the originals. Dumb move, since making new HD copies will be impossible. the tapes halmark made were in standard definition in the PAL format for European tv.

Definitely a dumb move, although at least one Filmation program apparently did escape that fate: the animated version of "Star Trek" from 1973 to 1975. The DVD set of the animated "Star Trek" was from downconverted HD masters...and the "More Tribbles, More Troubles" episode from the animated series was actually included as a bonus item in full HD on the Season 2 Blu Ray set of the original series.

But it is likely that since the animated "Star Trek" was excluded from the Hallmark deal since it was a co-production of Filmation and Paramount.

In that theory, the color bars can also be construed as racist, all "lined up" to conform. How about "snow", after a station left the air (in the old days)? Offensive to northerners. Alright -- just leave a black screen. Forget it -- also an issue with race. The politically-correct conundrum would never end.

Maybe somebody can correct me, but I think that USA Network repeated those TV Magoos with Charlie the houseboy...only they dubbed the old Charlie voice with a run-of-the-mill American voice! Never mind that the exaggerated Chinese look was not changed!

To me, the only Filmation-produced program that's even worth a rat's rear is "Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids." Agree or disagree?

So was The Brady Kids a Filmation/Paramount joint venture. Could it have gotten the same exemption?

Disagree, definitely. The "Star Trek" cartoon was pretty good, as was the Filmation version of "Tarzan".

I was just wondering if Filmation's GhostBusters have any connections with The Columbia Pictures' Movie Franchise of the same name?

If the cartoon series is *not* "The Real Ghostbusters" (featuring Slimer), it is the one based on the old live-action series w/ Forrest Tucker & Larry Storch.

As I recall, both cartoon series ran simultaneously---a confusing scenario, to say the least!

I think The Animated Version (Slimer and The Real GhostBusters) does have a direct connection with the GhostBusters movie franchise in which SONY now controls, And it is NOT related to Filmation's version whatsoever.
