Rumors of 94.7 KTWV Los Angeles foramt flip

In the Los Angeles forum there are rumors that the Wave may flip to a AC station. Anyone heard this before. There is another rumor that the Wave may flip to FM talk radio.

This would be very sad to loose the FM station were Smooth Jazz radio began.

I live in the LA area and listen to the Wave in my car.

Its too bad The Wave couldn't drop Broadcast Archecture and program by hand like KIFM San Diego.

I think that KTWV should follow the KBLX format The Quiet Storm if they want to stay in Business. Or the 94.7FM could be KMET Again

Those are not rumors... they are really questions about, "if KTWV were to switch, what would they do?"

Since many smooth jazz stations have flipped, there is always a question about the remaining ones. But as long as KTWV continues to bill well, there is not going to be a flip... and with the economy in its current state, the cost of flipping in lost billings and slow recuperation make this sort of thing a hard decision.

They may as well flip. KIFM is the only large market station in California that deserves to broadcast the format, because they are the only ones doing it right. As one poster pointed out previously, KSBR in Mission Viejo (Saddleback College) is BY FAR better programmed and doing it at a fraction of KTWV's operating costs.

But wait, Here he is to save the day!

President Allen Kepler communicated on Oct. 13 with BA Smooth Jazz Network affiliates and non-affiliated format outlets. His memo outlines an impressive list of genuinely substantive shifts in the firm's programming approach, and suggests various real-world positive strategies regarding Smooth Jazz

Commercial stations with formats that lose appeal do not "go out of business" but instead they change to formats that they believe have greater appeal among the audience groups that advertisers seek.

Imitating or following a non-commercial station with no ratings in a format with similar or even older age appeal would not be the solution.
