Rush Limbaugh taken to hospital in Honululu

He likes fine cigars .. they may be enjoyable to smoke but they are extremely destructive to the heart. Like smoking a pack of cigarettes in one sitting

Smoking is likely just one thing on a list of unhealthy things this guy does or has done.

Then again, look at Milton Berle or George Burns.

I've grown to be less of a fan over the years, but here's hoping he's ok and that it's a wake up call rather than a date with health problems.

Scrolled around the dial tonight to see if there's anyone talking.

Best-of, best-of, sports game, best-of, sports game...
I noticed the same thing, My brother called me when I was driving and I couldn't find anything about
Rush on my way back to Chicago.

Whether you like him or not, could we please not turn this into an excuse to knock him, he is a human being,
and he is sick, it's just not right. I am not a fan of Ed Shultz, yet if he was sick, I would not start saying rude
things about him. He is a human being as well, and I would not be thinking of his political views, instead I would
be wishing him a speedy recovery.

On a side note, as a smoker we are taxed and picked on enough, I can't smoke in any public place in Illinois,
and we get treated as less than human by some people. Be careful what you wish for, if we all quit smoking
today do you realize how quick the Government would go broke? The amount of taxes on tobacco products is
extremely high, and are relied on for everything from kids healthcare to the roads we drive on, where do you
think that money will come from if not from tobacco taxes? I can promise you that the price of gasoline would
be over 7 dollars a gallon over night. Is there any one out there that actually thinks that the Government wants
people to quit? Of course they don't or they would have made tobacco illegal.

Must've been the steak and cheese. Or the cigars......

Only if you inhale all the smoke. Hence, that commonly used stat is another bit of spin (best not to get stats from advocacy groups). Your results may vary.

The real story is that most cigar smokers don't tend to inhale the smoke in the way that cigarette smokers do. Hence, the biggest risk from smoking cigars is actually mouth or gum cancer - the odds of which are orders of magnitude lower than that of a cigarette smoker getting lung cancer.

I could go on about the differences between cigars and cigarettes but don't wish to be taken outside.... ;D

I thought Twitter was the only place people would act like idiots about this?

Guess I was wrong.

You guys can hammer him all you want, but here are the facts:

  • His success has created/invigorated a format and then jobs for a lot of people
  • His success has allowed clusters to operate less profitable music stations because of the financial success of the N/T brand.

Hate him all you want, whether ou are in the format or not, you owe him something.

Rush is a fine conservative. My statement was not meant to be derogatory but rather an observation that may associate his symptoms with his lifestyle.

Also, based on the fact that Premiere Radio Network has not released a statement I suspect this event was very serious.

As I mentioned in another post he may be forced to take an extended respite or even retire as being a political talk host is very bad for the heart- It causes high blood pressure, damages the arteries, can adversely affect digestion and much more. All in all, it takes its toll on one's life

This I will agree with. It can be stressful to run an empire (of sorts). The bigger you get, the more responsibilities you have. And yes, his job is apt to raise his blood pressure over time. Not to mention that you just can't burn the candle at both ends forever. And, by most accounts, that what Rush does. You don't get to where he is without those sorts of personal sacrifices. It all takes a toll.

No new info as Walter Williams started today's show. We'll have to see if he's released in a couple of days or has to take a hiatus, which has happened before.

Obviously, Rush has flaunted an unhealthy lifestyle (red meat, cigars, etc.) on-the-air for years... although in fairness to him, I suppose it's more the libertarian argument as to the degree government should interfere in people's lives, tax vices, etc.

Leaving aside the debate over cigarettes vs. cigars, Rush is a heavyset fellow who - as one or two others have noted - undoubtedly faces incredible pressure in spite of his massive financial success. Despite the longevity of some of his family members.

At a personal level, we wish him well.

To the person who complained about the inability to hear news about Rush while driving around, two points:

(1). Stations NOT carrying Rush are NOT going to go out of their way to mention him - the old competitive thing - unless he's near death or part of a massive political story which can't be ignored.

(2). During the holiday season, many stations - and syndicators - air "Best of" repeat programming just to cut costs. Some irony here: I really believe EFM media long ago started the trend to air "Best of" shows rather than pay live substitute hosts. Part of it was that Rush in replay probably had more appeal to Rush loyalists than most any replacement, despite the dated material. Still~ It started a disastrous trend for talk radio in a 24/7 media environment. And let's not forget EFM's exponential fee increases for affiliate stations. Sure, Rush became a lucrative franchise for many, but doubtless, many cut costs in other areas, and that might include more "Best of" shows, even at the local level.

It is fascinating to contemplate Rush affiliates paying those massive fees for a protracted period WITHOUT Rush.

Rush used substitute hosts even in the EFM days one of them being Jim Kerr then of WYNY in New York. The only best ofs recently have been the actual holiday. Rest of the holiday break has been subs

Two wrongs don't make a right. No need to kick anyone when they're down.

I seriously believe that Rush Limbaugh is going through a life changing experience. This event will humble him like nothing else. No matter what wealth someone has, it can't buy great health if the Lord should deem his situation unfavorable.

I personally experienced a trauma that changed my life forever and made me realize I'm really nothing without God.

This event could help to make him more compassionate towards the suffering of others.

Two stations in North Carolina are building new formats around him. They'd better hope he gets better soon.

I figured his weight had something to do with it. He'll see he eats what he likes and no one has the right to tell him not to, but he will tell people there are consequences for actions.

I try to limit my red meat, but I will never give it up. It tastes too good.
