We're still board op-ing at Lumberyard 14~Forty ;) ;) But the Nurse and I tip our fezes to the Master Blogger for providing so much material to write about for the past year and a half!

Sure, there will be some goofs along the way...

Goofs? OK...

The Beckster five hours old (soon to be six).

Hendrie's first hour. ("Today is yesterday again!")

Mac & Cheese.

Aunt Carlos.

Don't connect with Deputy Dan for his slot? Oh, just blow traffic off until
the next window--don't even try a second effort to get him on after WX
and/or spots. Very sloppy, and it happens more often that this listener
would like, such as yesterday at 4:05--a Friday afternoon commute, in
the rain. And he wasn't even in the air. You can't find the Skyview
ground source on the board?

Movie reviews during the AM drive news. There's 3-4 minutes that
could be better spent--with news.

And the worst goof? Sports PBP on snoozetalk 92/3. Russ lied when
he said that wouldn't happen. He subsequently had to modify his
statement. It's especially grating with these two- and three-hour
pre- and post-game shows just eating up much of the broadcast day
on 92/3, just because there is a one hour overlap with one of the other
franchises on Sports Parking Lot 620. You tune in 92/3 and it's some
pre-game show, meanwhile over on 620 it's--syndicated sports talk!
Both frequencies running sports programming and neither one is an
actual game. Just sucks. Where do we turn to for news? 55/FYI on
a weekend afternoon? Yeah, right. ::) I will give KT'R mega props for
their news coverage...when it's not pre-empted.

You're just as bitter as Bug on the Rug, Nurse Jeff, Legend City and me! But you're in good company ;D
So why is it the Master Blogger gets a pass on "..Arizona's Number One News & Talk Station.."? Oh, that's right...figures lie, and liars figure ;)

If KTAR sucks so hard why do you get so pissy when its not there because of sports? If KFYI's newstrafficandtalk are so much better than why leave? Stop listening to KTAR.

It's clear you hated the station when Preston was on, Femino was on, Bruce was on, Tony was on, Pat was on, Ankarlo is on, Mac is on. Did it ever occur to you that KFYI is your type of station and KTAR is not? So, listen to KFYI all day. You hated Pulitzer, Emmis, and now Bonnyville. KTAR is never going to be the station you want it to be. Move on.

Just because BotR and Doc have negative opinions about certain aspects of KTAR programming they are bitter former radio employees? I'm getting tired of people who sign in with an assumed name and their only defense is to attack people who are no longer in radio/never been in radio. There have been only 42 men who've been President of the United States but millions of people who critique his job daily. This is an opinion website, not an insiders page.

I had a push button for KTAR when it was on AM. I would listen to it 4 or 5 times a day. If I didn't like what was on KFYI, it was easy to check out KTAR, or any other AM station. Now that I have to go through 3 steps to see what is on KTAR, and when I do, I seldom want to listen to it, I don't check it but maybe once every 3rd day. KTAR should have followed KSL and kept both AM and FM.

I feel cheated if I am listening to a tape delayed broadcast. I listen to radio to keep in touch with the world. If there is breaking news someplace, I want to know it when it happens. Rush may say "there is a big fire in Houston," but that was an hour ago. I can't switch stations to get more details, nor can I turn on TV to learn more, because it is all over.

Two weeks ago I was listening to talk radio, after super Tuesday, and most of them were talking about "who do you think is going to win today?" Then on weekends, they repeat some of the same old shows. I think KKNT should change their slogan to "Yesterday's Talk Shows Today" because most (all?) are delayed. On second thought, I think Bill Bennett is live in the morning.

When David K Jones and Bob Boze Bell did their morning show, they had a TV in front of them, so they knew when there was breaking news in Phoenix and you didn't miss anything by listening to them.

Do you ever notice that there are never callers from cities where shows are tape delayed? You never hear a call to Rush from Phoenix. But on Bill Press you may hear someone call from Phoenix. Same is true for Ray Lucia's financial talk show on KFNN.

KKNT is live 4am-7pm. Salem does this and it's very annoying, moving shows back and forth as the time doesn't change, just to be live. Heaven forbid we hear something an hour old. KNST has realized people forget about calculating time changes, so they finally did as KFYI a short while back and anchored Rush at 10 regardless of month.

I've never heard a call on Rush from LA or Cleveland, either. It's hard to get it. He's still on live almost half the year, and especially on Fridays, it shouldn't matter when you call if you're in before noon pacific. Bill Press and Ray Lucia, conversely, get calls from Phoenix, because, well... they aren't on in many bigger markets.

The KFYI v. KTAR squabble here is most amusing…

…two fading radio entities carving up a predominately troglodytic audience interested not in gaining information and/or knowledge, but in blather and bluster and the most infantile of dialogue.

Meanwhile, iPods are continue to fly off the shelf and once loyal radio listeners turn to podcasts or capturing internet streams to fill the ever expanding hole of terrestrial radio…

KKNT does (and 55/FYI of course, doesn't do) this switcheroo only
twice a year. It can't be that annoying.

Under the "El Rushbo always airs from 10am-1pm on KFYI" premise,
Sunday Night Football on NBC should always be on at 7:15,
because that would be "in pattern" (8:15/7:15 Central and Mountain)
--not 5:15 in SEP/OCT and 6:15 in NOV/DEC.

If As The World Turns was on a delay in late 1963 instead of
then being live (and the show itself was live), we may not have heard
Cronkite say "In Dallas, Texas, three shots were fired at President
Kennedy's motorcade..." until 12:40pm, instead of at 11:40am.
OK, so maybe that's a lame exaggeration of past history, but it fits
the general idea of "carry the talk show live."

If the public can grasp the idea of live sports and cable network shows
being an hour later from November to early March, I think they can
remember to tune in to El Rushbo at 10:00 or 9:00. If that can mean
one less hour of that lunatic Jacobs and/or the Nearly Bald One for
eight months of the year... ;D

The fix would be for Arizona to start observing daylight saving time
with everyone else (except Hawaii), but that probably won't happen
as the standard time lobby will convince the legislature that "it will
be too hot" (it already is too hot), or "we'll have an extra hour of
sunlight" (no you won't), or "the kids won't go to bed" (what do they
do in Seattle with an even later sunset?...have you heard of blackout
drapes?), or "the drive-in movie can't start until 9:00" (what drive-in
movie?).

Historical note: after DST was observed in AZ for one summer (1967),
the drive-in theater lobby was one faction which went after the state
legislature and got it repealed starting in 1968 and ever since. I think
dairy cows were the other lobbyist group. ;)

In the 60s, even if you would have had daytime syndie, the station would have cut out with local/national cast for breaking news... and they still would now if it warranted. Some stations choose not to carry talk hosts' coverage of speeches like the State of the Union; Savage is a prime example of this... any station who wants to cover the actual speech will not air his show that day.

Yes, AZ should get in step with the rest of the country, but it isn't going to happen. I have a funny feeling that if Rush started at 9am come next month, we'd hear how KFYI is gutting local programming. I know it's en vogue for people here to take shots at both big talk stations (BTW, amazing how 1480, which also adjusts it's sked, avoids being the target of ridicule here), try telling us KOA in Denver is a schlock operation because it runs Rush on a 2-hour delay. WHAM, which owns Rochester? They have the audacity to have a local show that posts huge numbers go until 2pm, pushing Rush back. Heaven forbid something happened that would affect news coverage will CC was not cheaping out and doing local content.

Continuing to staying off the top ;D

These are the times when I miss Preston Westmoreland and his biannual "should AZ start observing DST?"

Nurse Jeff and I like it the way it is, so hands off! Why bother with Springing forward and Falling back, when all you do in Arizona (except the Nation of Navs) is set it once and let everyone else deal with the math! If it was good enough for the late Ev Meacham, it's good enough for us! Anyway the gumment keeps changing the change dates and pretty soon the Nanny Gov & Nanny Mayor will be getting in the act. Enough already!!

...isn't this thread supposed to be about the Master Blogger? He's probably in favor Daylight Saving Time and Lights Out on March 29th. He actually believes KT'R is #1. YIKES!! Shouldn't we get back on topic?....

No, we can't, because then I would need to fix my automatic coffee maker and toaster. And we don't have enough toaster talk radio.

Simple equation: no listeners = no ridicule.

Now back to our insurrection, which is already in progress.

Au contrare, dude or dudette.

55/FYI gets its own share of ridicule here, and I'm one of the
most rabid ridiculers:

The lunatic Jacobs who often won't shut up and toss to the Traffic Twins
at the specified time on the hot clock. He should also never be allowed
to read a live spot--it's excruciating.

The Nearly Bald One (aka Mr. Kim Komando), and lest we forget
his wonderful collection of SFX. ::)

El Rushbo and Hannity not live during DST.

Kim Komando not live all year, and an hour short.

J.D. Wafflesworth.

Canned local news in the evening, no local news overnight.

Royal Norman's canned weather.

@#$% I-CRAP.

Before he discontinued his show...messing with the airtime
for Drudge. Two hours? Three hours? 7-10, 7-10, 7-10?
8-10? 8-11? Live? Memorex? One could only hope 64/KFI
would be coming in on the skywave.

OK, I'm out of ridicule for now. Anyone? Bueller?
