Ryan Cameron & Holly Firfer team up for a new WXIA talk show

ATLANTA & COMPANY TO PREMIERE SEPTEMBER 12
Ryan Cameron, Holly Firfer to co-host new local show on 11Alive

WXIA-TV—11Alive is producing a new hour-long daytime show featuring local businesses, events and entertainment. Atlanta & Company will be a live, studio-based weekday show. The station plans to air it at 11am, following the new, live Martha Stewart show at 10am.
Ryan Cameron, V-103’s (WVEE-FM) host of afternoon drive’s “The Ryan Cameron Show“ will co-host the show with DAVE-FM (WZGC-FM) morning drive’s Holly Firfer.

Cameron has been an Atlanta radio personality since 1991, developing a loyal fan base and keeping his audiences laughing with his quick wit and raw energy. He’s also well-known to Atlanta Hawks fans as the P.A. announcer, making player introductions, warming up the crowd and keeping them entertained. Cameron’s done some television too, appearing on shows such as The Jamie Foxx Show, Montel Williams and Rolanda.
He is no stranger to local television, either. He appeared on 11Alive’s Noon Day in 1994 where he won an Emmy for Best on Air Personality.

Holly Firfer started her career in television as a news anchor with CNN where she has worked since 1989. She’s anchored CNN/US, CNN Headline News and co-anchored live shows, such as Talkback Live. Firfer has also worked as a correspondent for CNN’s Health Unit where she won numerous honors from health and medical organizations for stories she wrote and produced. Recently, she made the leap into radio and is currently spending her mornings on DAVE-FM ‘s “All Access with Barnes and Firfer.”

“Atlanta and Company” will be a fun look at the local people, businesses and services in our community. Ryan and Holly will make sure it’s a fun hour where you’ll laugh a little and learn something new while you’re at it,” commented Bob Walker, President and General Manager, WXIA-TV.

Atlanta and Company plans to showcase wide-ranging topics, from local chefs, the arts scene, home improvement ideas and the latest fitness tips. Whatever Atlanta is talking about, looking forward to or just can’t get enough of, Atlanta & Company will make it part of the show.

I wondered if 11 was going to try a local magazine show once again since they have a history of doing them. I guess some of the energy put into the cancelled "Atlanta Tonight" will be used for this new pre-noon magazine show. Channel 11's most recent morning magazine show attempt "Peachtree Morning" did not do to well but the previous "Noonday" program lasted a while during the 80s. I wonder if the 11am slot is better than using the 10am slot which follows Today or even the 4pm slot to add more local programming to afternoons. I doubt it will be a program that would interest me but I wish 11 the best in launching another local magazine show.

Interesting to think of a switch in partner for the show, for Ms. Fluffer. Obviously Ryan has a hundred times the star power of either of the DaveFM show members... but it does strike a chord that Barnes is out of the mix.

Anyone can rationale this or explain it way with "family obligations" or even "wider demographic", but it's gotta sting ol' B to not get on television.

If the chemistry is there I think the show has a chance. Ryan is a good lead, and Firfir is a good sidekick.

As for Barnes....who cares?
______________

This program is going to be a lot more commerce-driven than the typical local morning show. I'm predicting lots of product placements, lots of verbal plugs/anecdotes, lots of "here's Shirley with the Home Depot to help us with picking the right hammer" kind of thing. They basically tell you this in the press release. Its also the trend now with local morning shows. WAGA's Good Day Atlanta will seem positively PBS by comparison.

Also, betting that 11 is paying Ryan 10x what they're paying Firfer. (11exec: "Uh, we need a woman, chief. Who's available? Can't get Vikki b/c Ryan's pay is 88% of the entire budget. Think Firfer will take $125 per ep?) A little bit of a slam on Cindy of C&Ray fame? After all, C&R have a relationship with 11.

This is show will be ratings-challenged (wont do a 1.0) but will stay on the air through aggressive sponsorship tie-ins.

Barnes wants no part of this "TV" show. "MOVIE STARS" don't do "TV" shows.

So, then, why doesn't Barnes want to do it?

Movie stars like Barnes (cough..cough!!) do when their career is swirling the drain.
______________

While it seems that everyone is choosing to elevate Ryan Cameron and drop Holly Firfer in a barrel, did anyone consider that she has 13 years experience as a reporter and anchor at a national television network?

Second hand her all you want, but you don't "accidentally" end up getting on CNN as an anchor and staying there for over a decade.

Obviously Cameron's radio experience is greater and his popularity higher, but Firfer's live television experience is 100 times more vast than Cameron's.

Remember, she is relatively new to radio, but TV is what she has done her whole career. I wouldn't be so quick to discount her or label her as a "sidekick." I'd be willing to wager she will more than hold her own on Channel 11's magazine show, considering that for the better part of her career she was on live TV getting fed news through an ear piece as producers were constantly changing order of content with an audience of 20 million+ people.

I would have to agree with you on that one.
