S.F./San Jose Arbitron Radio Ratings: December 2011

It's interesting that even with it's impaired signal, KDFC manages to pull about the same number of listeners as KPFA.

KGO got a 4.1 for SFO
but for San Jose KGO got a 6.0

KCBS got a 6.5 in SFO
KCBS got a 3.0 in San Jose.

Maybe KGO has an argument that they don't need an FM outlet.
KLIV got a 1.4

At the same time I think KGO do need an FM outlet at some point.

KGO used to have an FM station in the 80's (101.3) it was a failure except for Don Chamberlain & co-host Rosie Allen

KGO originally owned 106.1 and then sold it and acquired 103.7 in the 1950s. In the late 1960s they ran rock automation from ABC on it. In the 1970s they ran live and local rock and disco on it as KSFX. In the 1980s they changed the callsign back to KGO-FM and ran ABC's syndicated Talk Radio format on it along with local hosts such as Michael Krasny and David Lamble.

I may be mistaken but I don't recall either Don Chamberlain or Rosie Allen having talkshows on KGO-FM, unless you're talking about her stint as public affairs director at KGO-FM.

Chamberlain did. The KGO-FM talk format (syndicated ABC as you said), was not doing well, so they tried Chamberlain (local) in the afternoon toward the end of the format. It was a reprise of his California Girls show from KNEW - but called Sex Talk if I remember correctly. They allowed both Chamberlain and the callers to get pretty explicit about the subject - treading close to trouble from the FCC, I remember thinking at the time.
