S.F./San Jose Arbitron Radio Ratings: February 2012

95.7 The Game does have local 'talent'. They are also the home of Oakland A's. But I notice they spend way more time talking about the Giants.

Maybe if the A's have a good season, they will benefit with higher ratings. I believe overnights are syndicated.

@DavidKaye...That is a huge leap of faith to think KGO could lose that much of it's 6+ audience and somehow be more attractive to advertisers.

Sure nobody buys 6+ but they are obviously falling in whatever demos they had and not gaining new audience to replace them. It's not like a music format flip from adult standards to something more contemporary..In that case you can go down 6+ but gain in younger demos. In this case they can lose older demos and not replace them with anyone.

In this case, you are right... KGO lost in every demo.

But radical format changes generally produce that result.

The real point is that KGO was around 20th in 25-54, the key sales demo. They had to do something. It will take more than a couple of months to see if they do any better... but they had little to lose.

And there are plenty of cases of stations that look bad in 6+ but which have actually made major improvements in sales demos.

Good job, KOSF! I stream them sometimes and they're a pretty good classic hits station. I knew the format could work in the bay area if executed decently.

95.7 also just got the NCAA tournament and NFL Sunday, Monday night games, so they are not going anywhere

It boggles my mind. If you listen (on line) to CBS' Q105, WRBQ Tampa FL, or 104.3 KHITS, WJMK Chicago, both stations have a great sounding Classic Hits format. But yet, they couldn't program a good Classic Hit Format on 106.9 KFRC.

Where did KGO rank in terms of overall market billing in 2010? (I presume it's too early still for 2011 results.)

Ratings are one thing; I prefer to look at dollars.

In any given market, it would be very uncommon for more than 1 or 2 AM stations to have competitive money demo numbers.
