Sad Breaking News. Actor James Earl Jones has died at age 93

Here is an obit on James Earl Jones. He was best known for Star Wars and he was the voice of CNN id's in the 1990's.
Thank you for posting that. His CNN ID is still running and has been since the 90's

RIP to the greatest voice actor of all generations...:-(

In addition, he was a spokeman for Verizon and its predecessor, Bell Atlantic back in the 90's.(On a personal note, when I first signed up for their DSL service back in 2005 after years of dial-up Internet, I got a message from him acknowloding that the broadband service was activated).

And besides his famous "This Is CNN..." ID's, I believe he also did a voiceover for the closing logo of Viacom in the 90's at the end of each show produced or distributed by them(correct me if I am wrong).

At 93, he lived a long, decent life.

This is making me miss when the broadcast networks would run a one hour special when a noteable individual died.

I wonder how much longer CNN will use his voiceover in their ID?

A legend. What else can I say.

RIP and you will be FOREVER missed. What a long life lived. I hope Heaven is a beautiful place for you. Say hi to Carrie Fisher for us.

He was the one who said, "Build it, and they will come."
Nobody said that. Until after the movie.

"If you build it, he will come."

He also never said, "Luke, I am your father" but everyone thinks that's the line.

The line I remember the most, which probably never happened in real life, was "Kunta Kinte, you old African! I've found you!" Watch that be found to not be the actual quote from the series.

Why wouldn't they continue to use it?
No rights to it after his passing, perhaps?

Guess that's depending on how it was licensed by CNN, naturally.

Something like that isn't licensed. It's a work for hire, and is the property of the person or company (or their successor in interest) who paid for it.

No different than someone using software that I wrote 50 years ago. I was paid for my work, and I have no further ownership claim on it.
