Sad news: DXer/Author John H Bryant fatally injured

To: [email protected]

To my DXplorer friends—

It is my sad duty to inform you that yesterday John Bryant fell from a ladder and received injuries that resulted in his death this morning. As you are, I am shocked--John was not only one of my best friends but also a writing partner and travel buddy. As I find out details on arrangements I will keep you posted. Please raise a glass to John—we have all lost a valued friend and colleague.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I never knew him, but I understand he was one of the major participants in ultralight DXing, for example administrating the ultralightdx yahoo group, dealing with various awards, among other things.
Most of the posts in the past day or two at the ultralightdx yahoo group have been paying tribute to him. You can read the messages without having to join the group, here's a link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ultralightdx/messages
Apparently you have to be a member of DXplorer to read those messages, and as I am not currently a member of that group, I can't read them. Thanks for posting that news here, though. I did first hear about it on the ultralightdx group.

John Bryant used to do all those Grayland, WA DXpeditions, where he always got Australia, Japan, China and New Zealand w/ a 300 ft beverage.

Very sad. We'll miss him.

A lot of us are gonna miss that guy. I loved hearing the reports from all those DX-peditions.
I meant to get him a KSL Radio QSL card for the Easter Island trip, even though he wasn't soliciting QSLs.

I hope some of his friends can step up and try to fill his shoes (keep his memory alive, and his rigs warm).
