SALE OF WRXP: FINALLY IN THE WORKS?

Since Paul Simon owned 107.1, that station has been a revolving door! For a time, WNEW-FM simulcast on that frequency.

Even if WEPN lands on 101.9, it won't reach out to the Hamptons. :)

Considering that the Riverhead / Hamptons radio market (when there was still an Arbitron market by that name) was only a bit above 100,000 persons 12+, the loss of that area does not have much of an effect. I always wondered why ESPN had LMAed the station to begin with.

Elite weekenders from NYC, perhaps? If it didn't really have any impact on ratings, I'm sure that's still the perception they sold on.

That's a good point... perhaps the idea that clients might notice them?

Except that 107.1 wasn't audible in much of Western Suffolk County. The only areas that got reliable reception were east of Riverhead. And 1050 is still audible out there.

If ESPN moves to 101.9, they will definitely need to find another repeater (or two) if they wish to cover Long Island. 101.9 gets clobbered by 102.3 and then 101.7 further out east you go.

Then maybe ESPN may just need to buy 101.7, regardless of whether they remain on 1050 or end up on 101.9.

I like the program director at RXP,they go from Quazi mish mosh to alternative ,now they are doing more classic rock,they sure love PEARL JAM and NIRVANA,heck I think they get PAID to play those bands more.Someone is getting paid under the table or something is up there.
Someone needs to check into that.Why didnt they stick with all alternative?!Its like someone up in management likes to do the exact opposite of what makes sense .javascript:void(0);

Definitely. I also hear they're getting paid to play "Devo - Whip it" a couple times a day

Sandwiching "Enter Sandman" or "Paradise City" in between Coldplay and The Cars with the Beastie Boys and Bush on the back ends of the set is confusing to a casual listener.

It's strange for me to say this, as a huge rock fan, but I hope 'RXP flips as soon as possible. Their playlist is way too safe and predictable; the only "oh wow" factor is after listening for 7 or 8 minutes when you're thinking "they went from that to this??".
