Salem Host Sebastian Gorka Proposed for Trump Administration Job

CNN is reporting that the Trump Administration wants to name Sebastian Gorka as "Deputy Assistant to The President and Senior Director for Counter Terrorism." Gorka had served in the first Trump Administration, also as Deputy Assistant to The President.

Gorka has a weekday show on the Salem Radio Network, heard 3 to 6 p.m. ET. I would assume he will have to give it up to be a full time White House employee.

Salem is fairly generous in allowing its hosts to get involved in politics and come home when their work is over. Larry Elder left Salem to run for California governor a few years ago and later for president. When neither was successful, he was rehired earlier this year.

I suppose Gorka will leave Salem but maybe with the plan that he could come back.

John Bolton says: "Sebastian Gorka's a con man. He owes his position purely to Donald Trump."

As I said in the other thread: This means he's no longer on the radio. Hopefully Trump will hire a few more.

He only lasted a year the last time:

Well, in Cleveland, on WHK, maybe they could bring Michael Medved back. They dumped "The Michael Medved show" for Dr. G. Medved is far more entertaining than Dr. Gorka.

That would be a surprise. Medved was dropped by KTTH Seattle, one of his few non-Salem stations last year:

He's been self-syndicating, primarily as a non-political host. He endorsed Harris, which won't endear him to the Salem folks.

Gorka's a piece of work.
From his wikipedia article:
During his time in the first Trump administration, Gorka gave a series of combative interviews with the press in which he defended the administration's positions on national security and foreign policy. Various national security scholars in academic and policymaking circles have characterized Gorka as fringe. Some critics have challenged his academic credentials, his views on Islam and radicalization, and his motives for identifying with the Order of Vitéz and supporting Magyar Gárda, a paramilitary organization banned by the European Union.

In 2017, Gorka appeared on Fox News on the evening of the U.S. presidential inauguration wearing a badge, tunic, and ring of the Order of Vitéz.[104][105] This gave rise to claims that Gorka himself is a Nazi sympathizer.[106][107] New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman wrote in April 2017 that Gorka "has been accused of having links to far-right groups in Europe",[69] and The Guardian reported that the Order of Vitez, whose medal Gorka wore to Donald Trump's inaugural ball, "has been linked by some to Nazi colluders".[108]

Keep in mind a few things: Gorka's show is called America First. The sole purpose of his hiring was that Salem wanted the inside track to Orange Man from a true insider.

Since the 2020 election, Gorka has promoted the Trump agenda, played the role of 45's lapdog, promoted The Big Lie, and did all he could to get him re-elected. Now, he's being rewarded for a job well done. So this should not be a shock.

5-6 years ago, driving around the Baltimore-DC area, I heard his late afternoon show on Salem on a high AM frequency, 1210-1500.
Gorka was going on about airlines "double charging" heavy-set passengers.

A male caller talked about it with him and said to Gorka, "wouldn't that extra charge apply to YOU?"

Gorka went ballistic. HOW DARE YOU insult me!!
It's only an appendage !

I never laughed so hard.

I've heard this guy on the air, I assumed he was a Brit with a weird confected upper-class accent that some people put on to try and fit in with the "set". I thought Trump was anti immigrant, but here he is hiring them.

Gorka is a Brit born to Hungarian immigrants to the UK.

I call him "Count Dracula" because his voice slightly reminds me of another famous naturalized American of Hungarian extraction, Bela Lugosi.

Gorka is a US citizen. Trump isn't anti-immigrant. He's anti illegal immigrant. Although, obviously there is some grey area between the two concepts, especially if one is dealing with Trump's followers, many of whom are anti immigrant, legal or illegal.... And Trump's own rhetoric (especially in 2016, with some of his comments) crosses the line as well.

When he leaves Salem's talk schedule, that leaves more room for other folks in conservative talk radio, I suppose. Somebody has to fill the slots.

Michael Medved was pretty stridently never-Trump in 2016. After Trump won that became a No Sale to their audience, so they swapped him out for somebody who had actually been part of the administration to try and win back those listeners.

Dennis Prager has reportedly suffered a serious back injury as the result a fall, so Salem may have multiple holes to fill in their schedule.

Nope. He's stated in his rallies how he wants to "revoke" the immigration visas of foreign workers who enter this country legally and do the jobs Americans won't do, like crop harvesters and those he smeared in Springfield, Ohio.\

Given how Elon once joked he and his brother were "illegal immigrants" because they violated their education visas (broke the rules) and took 10 years to become U.S. citizens, he should've been deported.

Hugh Hewitt was a never-Trumper as well, but eventually got the corporate mandate. This was also about the same time he was moved from evenings to mornings (replacing William Bennett) in 2016.

Another Salem host, Joe Walsh, steadfastly refused to tow the company line. That independent stance cost him his shows both on the network and locally on WIND in Chicago.

Dissent isn't tolerated in conservative media. It's not PC, you know.

In one of the first RNC primary debates, hosted by CNN IIRC, Hugh was one of the panelists asking questions.

When Hugh asked Trump a question, a legitimate and fair question, Trump viciously slurred and insulted Hugh.
"I looked your show up. It's small. Tiny..."

Was surprised Hugh became a Trump kisser, considering how rude, tacky and mannerless the GOP leader is, even to those in his own party.

The few times I've heard his show he's not a Trump kisser. After 2020 he insisted that the election was legitimate, and berated Trump for living in a state of unreality about it. Hugh credited Stacy Abrams getting out the vote in Georgia.

Hewitt may still hold reservations about Orange Man, but keeps those at a minimum while promoting his "positive" qualities (whatever those may be) and policies. In my market he airs on a 21-hour delay in overnights so I don't get to listen; his views may have evolved over time.

At least Hewitt isn't like Gorka or Mike Gallagher, both of whom are knee-pad wearing pompom wavers.

Every time I've heard Hugh, he's always defending Trump and castigating Trump's superior opponents. But I haven't listened in a long time. He's not on a station in my area, Austin, Texas, and the ones he's one, while usually a strong frequencies, aren't that clear (660, 930).

Of the major conservative hosts, not an independent thinker among them.
At least Chuck Harder, Neil Boortz and Art Bell and some others from the past weren't married to a particular political dogma.
