Salem Host Sebastian Gorka Proposed for Trump Administration Job

Article highlights:
What the Hell Happened to Hugh Hewitt?

When Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016 wanted to reach conservative voters, they decided there was only one person in right-leaning media who’d give them a fair shake: Hugh Hewitt.

According to multiple sources, the Clinton campaign considered playing ball with Hewitt’s radio program because advisers viewed him to be an even-keeled, serious-minded conservative pundit who could have a civilized, intellectual, and issues-focused discussion with the former secretary of state. She eventually appeared on the show in 2017.

Since President Donald Trump took office, it seems, Hewitt has undergone a dramatic political shift mirroring the path of the Republican Party—one that has become increasingly about fealty to the president, above all other values—leaving some of the radio host’s friends dumbfounded.

What does any of that have to do with advertising endorsements?

I haven't seen or heard Hewitt pitching any snake oil. The same can't be said for Gorka, Hucksterbee, Larry Elder, Charlie Kirk and others.

I totally understand radio hosts doing live reads for advertisers on their shows, but anything outside of that ruines their credibility for me.
Didn't say it had anything to do with advertising endorsements.

As the article is called What the Hell Happened to Hugh Hewitt, the article about the once great radio talk host is highly relevant to this discussion.

The article basically says Hugh's show in 2016 was the only national "conservative" show Hillary Clinton's campaign would've gone on. Today, because of his far right pro-Trump rants and descent into Maga lunacy, no chance any Dem. running for national office would go on his show.

I listen to Hugh Hewitt and I don't hear him as "far right". Instead of calling it "Maga lunacy", it could be called "Maga Opinion" or "Maga based opinion".

Calling it "lunacy" is also someone's opinion. People who don't agree have the right to call it lunacy. Just as some call Jack Smith "deranged."

Free speech works in both directions. At least for now.

Of course you don't think Hewitt has gone farther to the right because you agree with Hewitt. You have admitted your own bias. So, you probably shouldn't comment on someone else's critique.

Again, stop making excuses for these political operatives disguised as radio personalities. It isn't working and I say that respectfully.

They’re also ruining Fox Sports Radio sports talk along with gambling. I’ve switched to Infinity Sports Radio, I enjoy their hosts a lot better.

True. Just trying to suggest more civility.

From 2018.. this says alot about the character Hugh is and what he stands for
During his most recent MSNBC program, host Hugh Hewitt defended the anti-LGBTQ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) in its fight with Amazon. But Hewitt did not disclose that ADF is a major sponsor of his radio programs.

From 2015 or 16
Right-wing radio host Hugh Hewitt allowed former Florida Governor and potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush to make false claims on his radio program about Indiana's recently passed “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” (RFRA) without challenging Bush's statements, and was wrong about the law himself.

Salem sure knows how to run a radio network!
A bunch of business geniuses!
Paying their air "talent" (and execs) exorbitant salaries while their stock price SOARS !!
Wow... 70 cents a share... For 5 years of being broadcast "losers" and "suckers."

Looks like Salem, whose stock has been "delisted," is about to go belly-up:

Salem Media's probability of distress is above 80% at the moment. It has very high risk of going through financial crisis in the upcoming years.

From Walletinvestor.com:
If you are looking for stocks with good return, Salem Media Group Inc stock can be a bad, high-risk 1-year investment option. Salem Media Group Inc real time quote is equal to 0.700 USD at 2025-01-23, but your current investment may be devalued in the future.

Would love to call and argue with one of Salem's "know-it-all" hosts, pointing out the many flaws of their arguments.
Then, sneak in (without telling the call screener was going to do this) how the very co. the host works for is a "money loser," a "bad investment" that Wall Street thinks is about to "go under," as bad as the government agencies and institutions those outlier hosts are always attacking.

Salem would probably go begging to the Koch brothers (the right's equivalent of the hated George Soros) for $$ to keep the one-sided propaganda machine going.

But not worth it, as no listenable Salem station in my area.

Even more important, few, if any, listen to the drivel.

No national Democrat would go on any radio show that wasn't already in their pocket. I have never heard a national Democratic candidate on a conservative talk show, ever. Kamala wouldn't even go on Joe Rogan, and he's a podcaster -- he may lean conservative, but he's not MAGA, and his podcast reaches millions of people. But most politicians these days want to be interviewed by friendlies -- even GOP'ers want to stay in friendly territory. Can't have tough questions mar their propaganda dealing.

As for Hewitt, the few times I've heard him in the mornings (usually while DXing) I haven't heard any MAGA bootlicking, mainly a conservative take on news events. He obviously has his opinions but he's no Levin or Gorka. The only product I recall him pitching is Relief Factor, which is a natural supplement that may or may not help some people, and seems to get pitched on more than one conservative talk show.

Pitching products is as old as Radio and TV. I just got done watching Mike Wallace on YT, smoking a cigarette, in a TV interview show from the late 1950's or very early 1960's, where he was interviewing Margaret Sanger, and in between the interviewing he was pitching Pall Mall cigarettes, how they were a mild, but manly smoke, with excellent taste' -- all while smoking one throughout the interview.

And we all know Mike Wallace turned out to be a decent journalist. He did ask Sanger some good, probing and thoughtful questions.

With a cigarette burning, the whole time.

Looks like other radio stocks took a hit. And we all know about the other radio companies financial troubles. You may hate Salem, but they are a radio company, and radio -- just like other legacy media -- aren't doing terrific financially. Even CNN -- which, after 40 odd years, could be considered a legacy media -- just laid off a lot of their workers. They're going to try streaming again, for the second time. Last time, as we all know, it didn't turn out so well.

Legacy media is taking a hit. Salem as well as the other companies.
