Little Rock Salem Starts Sell Off of Little Rock Cluster

Starting with the CCM-formatted KKSP 93.3 “The Fish” to Educational Radio Foundation of East Texas for 1.5 million with a LMA that will start between August 18th and September 1st.

ERFET operates a cluster of Christian formats in the Tyler-Lufkin market, including CCM, Spanish-language CCM, and Christian Teaching and Talk.

I would expect Salem to move KDIS (Christian Talk), KDXE (Conservative Talk), and KZTS (Gospel) soon as well. KDIS would fit especially nicely in Bott’s geographic portfolio, but they haven’t made a large purchase in several years.

Look for the ERFET to pick up another signal in Lil' Rock for Fuzion. Then, my own opinion, at least one additional signal in Texarkana. The ministry is really starting to expand their holdings. First, the Waller cluster in 2020, then to Lufkin-Nacogdoches, Shreveport-Bossier City, and now Little Rock. All of this, from a ministry that was nothing more than KVNE and KGLY just 5 years ago. It's actually quite astonishing.

I have questioned whether or not they will continue to offer the KZWL/KWLL combination used for "The Well". With KVNE and Fuzion's rapid expansion, it seems as if The Well has been left to, pardon the pun, wither on the vine. The combined signals aren't the most compatible for one another, and are the two weakest in their portfolio.

Wonder if Houston might be on their radar with KFNC on the block?🤔 Station very likely to go to a religious operator.

Wonder what they'll do when they run out of FM stations?
I assume you are talking about Salem. Good question. I don't see a future for the company as a for profit with just their AMs. Their FM "Fish" stations should be money makers. IIRC their debt is not as bad as a lot of radio operators.

IMHO Sometimes business and religion don't mix.

ERFET is a very competent operator and I think they do a great job with all of their formats... The Well included, but I can't imagine them wanting to head to head in Houston against Hope's KSBJ or Vida Unida. Not only is 97.5 a lesser signal, I would imagine there is a lot of respect there and way too much duplication with both outfits being kindred localish, non-commercial operations. There is a lot of other lower hanging fruit.

It does seem that ERFET has determined, that in this current age of nationwide or at least super-regional non-commerical networks, that a certain amount of scale is needed.

Don't forget about Albuqueque.

Ah, the first thing I think of when I hear "Little Rock" is....

I think I'm on a roll here in Little Rock
I'm solid as a stone, baby, wait and see
I've got just one small problem here in Little Rock
Without you, baby, I'm not me

or is it....

Oh, little rock
Think I'm going to have to slip you off
Take a chance tonight and untie the knot
There's more to life than what I've got
Whoa oh, little rock

Collin Raye and Reba McEntire.

Now, can you tell me who sang about the capital of Arkansas here?

I was born in Little Rock
Had a childhood sweetheart
We were always hand in hand
I wore hightop shoes and shirttails
Suzy was in pigtails
I know I loved her even then

I can't see them looking at Albuqueque. The market is very far from their home base, so it would be hard to service. The city is vastly different from place from East Texas. Little Rock is quite similar and merely a couple of hours from home base.

From September of last year…

Salem has been willing to reduce its footprint in individual markets for the right price. I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell the rest of its Little Rock cluster either, but I don't think it's necessarily a given.

It's not in Little Rock, but a longtime "not for sale" property elsewhere in the state has now hung up the "for sale" sign.

The Little Rock fire sale continues for Salem as it sells off it's Gospel music stations leaving them with just a Christian & a Conservative talk station. Noticing a lot of the recent Salem sales, not just here, but in Nashville & Hawaii have involved their music stations. Aside from their Fish station in Atlanta & Dallas, wonder if they're, at the very least, done at least in terms of adding on in regards to CCM/music & becoming more & more focused on talk. I wouldn’t call it a fire sale exactly. They are not in a huge hurry and are getting decent prices.

No idea what will become of KDXE (another FM for Signal?), but I expect KDIS to end up with another religious broadcaster. Maybe Bott, but more likely a BBN or VCY or local buyer who wants to continue the programming.
