Samantha Bee apologizes for calling Ivanka Trump a vulgar word

Now a New Rant has been revealed and the target was directed at Ivanka Trump

Samantha Bee apologized Thursday for describing Ivanka Trump with a vulgarity on her TBS show “Full Frontal” that shocked advertisers and prompted an outraged response from the White House.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night,” Bee said in a statement to The Post. “It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”

Ivanka Trump, a senior White House adviser and the president’s elder daughter, sparked online outrage Sunday when she tweeted a photo of herself with her younger son around the same time as reports circulated that the U.S. government had lost track of nearly 1,500 migrant children last year. During a segment Wednesday night criticizing the administration’s immigration practices, Bee said, “You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child. Let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c—. He listens to you.”

The comment had attracted quite a bit of attention on social media Thursday and elicited a passionate response from the White House.

“The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement to The Washington Post prior to Bee’s public apology. “The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling. Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”

TBS later apologized in a separate statement: “Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

The video of the segment was taken down from YouTube and Facebook.

Wow. We have 'stars' doing dumb stuff. Talent is less about taking political cheat shots and more about being really funny. I don't care if you are liberal or conservative, let's get off the cheap shots and demonstrate some actual talent that got you where you are. If I want to see cheap shots, I can see there are many as talented as you in creating cheap shots online in any comments about any story. Sure humor is about shock and the unexpected but a racist remark by one comedian or the c word by another ain't showing off your talent and if you're too stupid to realize you are crossing the line until you meet with backlash, maybe you're too much of a loose canon to have the success you enjoy.

Then again, these folks don't work alone. They have staffs of people. You look at the credits of this show, and they list a bunch of writers. Was this written in a script, or was this off the cuff? And where are the producers and the publicists and the network people when this is taking place? It's one thing to put out a drunken tweet. It's another to do it in a produced show.

The other question I wonder (to be fair) is this getting the coverage because of the word or because of the target? If she used the same word about someone else, would the reaction have been the same?

Interesting question. I doubt if the person was someone else it would be as big a deal. Writers could have written it but if my name is on it, I'm making the call if it stays or goes. My point is the female humorists who have ruffled feathers in recent days are but a short list of those who look for simple cheap shots instead of really working up a timeless bit. And I'm not against political humor...it's just getting harder to find. I define political humor as creating humor from the political day-to-day versus just trying to spew something that is mean and hateful sounding.

Ms. Bee's program is definitely the latter.

I would say chances are this gets no attention if not for Roseanne's situation earlier in the week.

Bingo! You've nailed it!

My fellow right-wingers are churning up the blowback to 11 to try and get her canceled.
And it seems to be all about tit-for-tat for what was done to Roseanne.

It seems they've now read Saul Alinsky's book.

Samantha Bee's comments may be tastleless, but at the same time, unpatriotic comments on the president's children by using a slur towards a woman that is also slang for a certain female body part is not as bad compared to comparing a black woman to a ape.

right now, Trump, and his supporters and political party are in revenge mode for "liberal media" canceling Roseanne over that racist tweet. if anything, i don't see Samantha Bee losing her show over it, but she did earned a unpaid vacation,. which she did crossed the line, i see her being supended for a while. calling a female member of the president's family is wrong and should be considered a act of unpatriotism, but it does have the same offensiveness as racist behavior.

I'm sure he said, "It's fine, I've said much worse on a daily basis".

A number of reports today pointed out that it was basically the same body part referred to in the Access Hollywood tape. Billy Bush got fired for that, even though he wasn't the one who said it.

Update on the Sam Bee fallout from her rants.

NEW YORK (AP) — Comedian Samantha Bee returned to her TBS show Wednesday, apologizing again for using a crude epithet to describe Ivanka Trump but expressing anger that the ensuing controversy distracted from more important issues.

President Donald Trump had called for her to be fired for what she said on last week's episode of "Full Frontal," but TBS accepted her apology.

Immediately addressing the issue at the opening of her show, Bee said she hated to "contribute to the nightmare of 24-hour news cycles that we're all white-knuckling through."

"I should have known that a potty-mouthed insult would be inherently more interesting ... than this juvenile immigration policy," she said.

Bee had called Ivanka Trump a vulgar term in an attempt to encourage her to speak to her father about changing a policy where children of people entering the country illegally are being detained.

To drive her point home, Bee finished her monologue and went directly into another segment about immigration, knowing that she would have a curious audience tuning in to see her reaction.
