San Francisco TV news icon Van Amburg passes away at 86

The article says he was making close to a million dollars a year when he quit. That's the equivalent of over $2 million today. I don't know of any local anchor making that much.

One of the last "bigger than life" anchorman in local television. He had a great style that simply stated that he was the voice of Bay Area news. For purists, catch him in a cameo in the 1972 film, "The Candidate" with Robert Redford.
