Saturday Night Live at The Oldies is moving to WILK

Heard a promo tonight that the oldies show on KRZ for 30 years is moving over to WILK-AM and FM. Shadoe even uses one of the old Hot Hits WILK jingles in the promo. I like it just for the fact that WILK will have a real music program back on the air since they went CNN headline news as Newsradio 980 in the late 80's. HOWEVER, what does this mean for KRZ on Saturday nights and will the current listeners make the switch to WILK?

WILK must be starting to flounder a bit. It is never a good sign when a talk station airs music programing. The Talker must be starting to cut into their revenues.

The Talker isn't having any effect during the week when the "names" are on the air, the Talker is for all intents and purposes non-existent on the weekend. Rather than a move for WILK it smells like a move for KRZ, likely bringing some other new, hot syndicated program in on Saturday nights. A mistake after cultivating an audience for 30 years? Who, 18 to 34, has the radio on on a Saturday night?

You'd be surprised. A lot of people in their 20's don't even go out until after 10pm, not to mention people who would use it as background to parties and the like. That having been said, those same people have iPods and probably aren't thinking "thank God I can hear KRZ at my next house party."

Seems like another possible nail in the coffin for BHT though, since KRZ just gave those 18-34 year olds who DO stay home on Saturday nights one less reason to change the channel.

Leave it to Dale (Shadoe) to find some old WILK jingles! I used to love hanging out in the production room with him when he used to bring in his collection of jingles and promos from the NYC stations. He had a TON of stuff that was really cool to listen to ... and learn from when I started producing stuff for my own station down the road.

Not a bad idea Putting it on Wilk,Wabc in New York I believe is stilling doing a retro show on Saturday nights,
plus it will still get an fm audience on 102.3.

Makes sense. The show has evolved to an hour long of interview material anyways. Although they are very well produced interviews, cutting into the music every week was just painful. BHT does the syndicated Open House Party with John Garabedian from 7-10 on Saturday nights...which is a great option, (wish they just carried the whole 7-Midnight, and got rid of the "Hardware Bar" nonsense, but that's me talking).... but it will be interesting to see what KRZ does now.
