Savannah:104.9 John FM Sold, Is Now 104.9 The Surf - Hilton Head's Greatest Hits

http://www.1049thesurf.com/

WWJN is now owned by Lowcountry Radio, LLC, and they've flipped the format to 104.9 The Surf - Hilton Head's Greatest Hits. I haven't listened to it at length but for all intents and purposes (and going by the commercial embedded on their site), it looks it's like an Oldies station. The question now is, can an Oldies station on that signal do well in this market?

Thoughts?

At one time Triad owned Hilton Head but it appears they got to big for their britches and tried to be something they were and the ratings fell like a rock. Yes there is room for an oldies station at Hilton Head and changing the call letter will go a long way in helping them in that market. Clear Channel, Cumulus, and Triad are all about being in Savannah and that may be where the big money is but they, especially, Triad forgot their roots. Think we all know that you forget your roots and try to be something you aren't is a straight line to disaster. Really sad about Triad for their Owner, David Benjamin, seems to be a fairly nice guy. To bad they don't see what is going on there.
