"Save WBTN" Southern VT College urged find a way to keep Bennington AM station

"Save WBTN" Southern VT College urged find a way to keep Bennington AM station

From the Bennington Banner, Feb 21, 2008:

Southern Vermont College students who work at the radio station WBTN-AM in Bennington said they felt betrayed by their school after trustees decided three weeks ago that the station could no longer be supported by the college.

Looks like a hard lesson for the students.

Welcome to the real world.
The station has lost close to a half million bucks since taking over in 02.

Now lets see the future of local radio
Will some community minded soul with alot of dough step up?

I hope there is some opportunity to keep WBTN-AM going. This is the ONLY "local" service in Bennington. After WBTN AM and FM were sold off, WBTN-FM went to Vermont Public Radio. The last local commercial service, WZEC returned to it's religious roots though this time under onwer WHAZ Radio from Albany. I would think that a community the size of Bennington certainly could support one radio station.

WZEC should have been okay. If some things had been done differently at the local level it would have been.

The college is entirely responsible for the situation @ WBTN. It's a bummer. The reality is that we're talking about a city of about 14,000 and that number is decreasing. Bennington is lucky to have WEQX. WZEC went to the god squad and now WBTN is in danger of going up in thin air!
