Say Goodbye To "News Central", Say Hello To "Channel 11 News On Fox 53"

When a number of Sinclair-owned stations began running "News Central", many on Radio-Info.com messageboards commented on how inferior it was to other local newscasts in their markets.

As of January 30th, Pittsburgh will not have "News Central" on Sinclair-owned Fox affiliate WPGH-53 to kick around any more. That's because Sinclair is ending it's own production of local news in Pittsburgh. Henceforth, WPXI-11 will produce WPGH's nightly newscast.

While all of WPGH's news staff will be out of a job, WPXI officials have been quoted in a number of news articles posted on the 'Net as saying that there will be a handful of new hires. Maybe a few former WPGH news people will be moving to the WPXI building. Perhaps the WPXI-produced 10 P.M. newscast (on weeknights) will have (one or two) news anchor(s) separate from those on WPXI's local newscasts.

This is a Tribune-Review story on the change.

While sadly, a number of people are being let go, the irony is that with WPXI producing the broadcast, the quality of WPGH's 10 P.M. news will likely be improved tremendously.

I'll never understand the need for PCNC-- repeating the same newscast over and over again-- is stupid. A breaking news story for example will be old while it is still reported as being BREAKING. Why not do more live broadcasting on the Ch.

PCNC certainly gives that option for a major event, but there's not enough income available to run it live 24/7 or anything close to that. And it doesn't seem to hurt ESPN to run SportsCenter on a loop for 7 hours every morning...<P ID="signature">______________
