Scott Thompson of "WSZ - The Sports Zone" Passed Away

WAVE-TV reported that Sportscaster/WSZ-AM co-owner Scott Thompson passed away Friday night with a heart attack. Scott Thompson worked for many organizations including WKLO-AM in the 70's, WKQQ-FM in the early 80's, and as a freelance journalist for national networks. He was the co-owner of "WSZ-AM - The Sports Zone" network consisting of WWSZ-AM 1570 New Albany/Louisville, WTSZ-AM 1600 Eminence/Frankfort and WWFT-AM 1250 Lexington. Scott was 45 years old.

WSZ Radio would like to announce the passing of Scott Thompson late Friday night.

Scott was General Manager, partner, and host of the SportsZone SportsDrive weekday afternoons.

Scott, 46, is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Courtney (15) and son Colby (13). Please keep them and the rest of Scott’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Scott was also a friend to everyone who worked for him at WSZ. All of us will miss him greatly.

Thank you for your phone calls and e-mails.

In lieu of flowers… please send donations to the Scott C. Thompson Benefit Fund. Visit any National City Bank branch in Southern Indiana or Kentucky and let them know your wishes. They will take care of everything else.

That is a quite excellent station now with the sports format. I really enjoyed the blues format that used to be present on the frequency but obviously it didn't pan out in the Louisville market. Oh well, I guess XM bluesville will do for now!

I agree! I prefer ESPN radio over Fox any day. It would be nice if 1570 AM was able to produce a better signal, especially during the nighttime hours.

There may be some available in the expanded AM band 1610-1700KHZ. Chicago's ESPN radio station WMVP-AM 1000 usually comes in fairly clear at night.
