Seacrest....Out Of Morning Radio??

With the news that Ryan Seacrest has signed with E! to host that network's nightly entertainment news show, plus his continuing as host of "American Idol" and the syndicated radio series "American Top 40", I wonder if he might be giving-up his morning show on KIIS-102.7.

Has anyone heard whether he will be cutting back or giving-up his daily KIIS show??

I wonder if he can successfully juggle all of that. I know I couldn't.

After just seeing the KTLA report on the issue:

I'm thinking that he will indeed keep the morning show, American Idol and AT40.
If for some reason, he had conflicts with American Idol, he can get someone to fill in or "best of" bits could be run. AT40 would not be a problem since the program is VTed.

Hi,

From RadioDailyNews.com but excerpted from a long article (in a Merced web site of all places)...

...Somehow Seacrest never stops moving as he hosts L.A.'s No. 1 morning show on KIIS-FM (102.7) and took over Casey Kasem's spot last year in the weekly syndicated radio show "American Top 40."...

The PR machine must be working overtime here. Number 1. Huh???

The machine is also significantly broken. 12+ it is KFI followed by KSCA ahead of Ryan. In 18-34, it is KSCA, Power and KROQ before KIIS. In 25-54, it is KSCA, KLSX, KLAX, KROQ, KLVE ahead of Seacrest.

Yes, he is doing very well for KIIS and keeping the target in-demo in mornings. But #1? No way.

You know, I never understand why this guy is getting all the gigs. As if Hollywood suddenly ran out of talents??? Don't make me laugh and say the guy actually have some *gasp* "talent". Good Business guy, I give him credit for that, but he sure didn't "earn" them by his talent!

It's logistics, baby...

If you remember, Geoff Edwards was doing middays (I believe) on the old KMPC back in the 70's, while doing a 5 day-a-week game show taped in NYC (Jackpot!) AND a weekly gameshow back in LA (Treasure Hunt). Show me the money, I'll show you the way!

Good memory, Don. Geoff did 9am to noon on KMPC starting in 1968 (about the time they moved to the mansion on Sunset) and continuing into the mid-80s, and doubled as the host of those two game shows (1974/75 and 1973-77, respectively), so there was at least one television season where he was racking up the frequent flier miles and juggling both radio and television commitments.
______________

You don't replace the likes of Dees and Kasem based on 'good business skills' alone - you just don't. The people that make it look easy are generally the people with the most talent. Seacrest makes it look easy.

Re: Geoff Edwards and Ryan Seacrest (Was: Re: It's logistics, baby...)

At the time Geoff Edwards hosted both "Jackpot!" and "Treasure Hunt", I read an article about him in which it was noted he did his radio show on weekdays (but never had a sixth day, unlike many other big-city radio deejays of the era, who had to do a show on a Saturday or Sunday in addition to weekdays). One day a month, after his radio show ended for the day, he'd tape four or five "Treasure Hunt" shows (that show was produced in Los Angeles, and was broadcast only once a week).

Every other Friday, after his KMPC show, Geoff would fly to New York and do ten "Jackpot!" shows over the weekend (five on Saturday, five more on Sunday).

Even if "Treasure Hunt" had 52 first-run shows a year, Geoff only needed to work thirteen days a year on it (with four shows being taped each day).

There were several weeks when he only had to do the local radio show; and I think Geoff coordinated his schedule in such a way as he would not have to tape "Treasure Hunt" during a week when he'd have to fly out to New York that weekend for "Jackpot!".

In my memory is correct, I believe Geoff Edwards was only 28 when he took over "Treasure Hunt", and 29 when "Jackpot!" began.

At least for Ryan Seacrest, all of his TV and radio jobs are in Los Angeles, and he doesn't have to worry about cross-country flights (except for first-round auditions on "American Idol").

Ah, the difference that was KMPC

KMPC was unique in that NONE of the weekday air talent did weekend shows. KMPC had the best weekend/fill-in air talent and the station suffered very little from this policy.

Plus, with all the sports KMPC carried back then (Angels, Rams, UCLA) there wasn't the headache of a big-name weekday talent getting pre-empted on their weekend show.
______________

NO WAY!! He replaced them because he was willing to bend backwards and be CC's b*tch and work for peanuts. He sure didn't replace them based on "talent".

He's everywhere.. how can the public NOT be sick and tired of him yet??
