SEACREST TO STAY AT KIIS, CLEAR CHANNEL IN ~ $60 MILLION DEAL

I thought CC fired people to save money and now they're dumping an extra $25 mil on Seacrest? 25 million is equal to 500 people making $50,000!

Seacrest is a big reason Clear Channel is even able to dump 25 million.

Exactly! I also wonder what that does to the morale of employees who've had to take a paycut over the past couple years just to keep their jobs. I bet they're thrilled at this news, too. :-[

I've said it before, but Seacrest has hit the lottery, IMO.

I think that there is too much salary envy here. If I resented everyone that makes more than I do I would hate most of the world and be a very bitter person. This is the Holiday season when we are supposed to be of good spirits and have love in our hearts. Can't we just congratulate Ryan and get on with our own lives, give thanks for what we do posses and do our best to be better next year.

Happy Chanukah and Merry Christmas to all :)

Life is what it is. Taylor Swift can't sing a note, but she's an international star. Lady Gaga? Ryan Seacrest is no more talented than probably half of the unemployed jocks on this board, yet he hit the proverbial lottery. More power to him, but to think that he is worthy to take Casey Kasem's or Dick Clark's place is just laughable. It's all in the hype.

Speaking of Dees, when he was working in Raleigh back in the seventies, they didn't consider him good enough to work on the air during a ratings book when the station was on full power/daytime. I guess he showed them.

Say what you will about Seacrest...but who here wouldnt trade places? :-\

I'm happy for him. Sincerely. But it's sad to see how much standards have been lowered since the "good old days." It's not fun getting old!

I've heard from some people who have met him that he is a really nice guy. Hopefully it's true. We used to watch "American Idol", and he did a good job on that show.

Did you ever see the YouTube video (I think) about the luckiest man alive? It was a military truck that drove over a bridge. As soon as the truck cleared the bridge, the bridge was bombed. All I'm saying is that for Seacrest to be successor to Casey Kasem and Dick Clark, the guy in the truck is the SECOND luckiest man. My expression of my opinion is not intended to take anything away from Seacrest.

Seacrest has worked hard to get where he is, but he's no where near as talented as his predecessor. Dees did okay though, I would cry for him. If I'm not mistaken his last deal at KIIS was 60 mil for 5 years, he's got more than enough to retire on. But really, Seacrest is not that talented, just a very lucky guy who kept auditioning until he scored Idol and the rest just fell in line after that. Where would he be now if not for Idol?

Still detecting a little sour grapes here.

Talent is in the eyes of the beholder to borrow from a popular adage. Is Howard Stern more talented than Rick Dees, IMHO yes. Is Howard the most talented person to ever sit behind a microphone, perhaps, but also perhaps not. But in any case Howard Stern is another example of someone being in the right place and meeting the right person. If not for Mel Karmazin he would have been just another jock getting bounced from pillar to post.

Getting back to Ryan Seacrest, I do not nor would I listen to him, not because of him or his degree of talent, because I'm not into the music he plays. If he were to be the morning man on my favorite country station I would listen to him and probably think he was the brightest guy on the air today.

A lot of people have made the attempt to be in radio and of those some wanted to be the next sensation, but only a few make it. I started out many years ago on that path and had to step aside because I got into the habit of regular food consumption with a roof over my head. Am it bitter, no! Do I hate Ryan and all the others who made it further than I, certainly not. Do I wish I had personally done better, definitely yes.

In any event I have had a reasonably happy life just that I took a different path, perhaps the one that the Good Lord intended for me. Once again in the season of good will, I ask us all to congratulate Mr. Seacrest and then get on to improving our own lives with the talents we do have and using the gifts we have been afforded.

Well stated nmoore merry christmas to you. Ryan has worked hard to get where he is at as the old saying goes luck is where hard work and opportunity meet. Luck has played a role. Something in him told him to come to cali n hence he scored big but i am sure has had rough times like anyone in the industry be it radio r acting r what have u in the beginning.

But he is where he is and as much as i hate saying this we all r where we r suppose to be at any given time in life for if we werent we would be somewhere else. There is a price for everything we do in life. He has paid a price in some way.

Gosh I would. Love to not have talent and get paid those kind of bucks. Heck yeah. Be in the right place at the right time and say yes to a show you think is not going to do well only to have it go through the roof instead.

Just don't give him a live interview on the streets because he can't handle it.

And though I wish no harm to him, going up is the easy part. The ride down can be ugly.

Well, I for one am happy for him and his success and happy to see someone make 60-times what their CEO makes, instead of the other way around.

Are some of you saying that the guy who hosts the most popular show on television, the most popular morning radio show in this countries second largest market and hosts the most famous countdown show isn't talented and lucked into his success? IMHO, I think you're daft for such comments.

I can accept that his style may not be to your liking but I think we all make our own luck. Ryan had to succeed in Atlanta, he had to succeed in LA, and I'm sure there were a ton of failures and lessons along the way. Howard, Rush, Phil Hendrie, Ryan Seacrest, Jim Rome, all vastly different shows and I love them all for their unique way to deliver relevant content.

Seacrest worked very hard to get where he is, but honestly I found his show on Star to be a bore. It was a guy trying to do a morning show in the afternoon on what was outside of mornings a music intensive station. Never quite understood why he was allowed to do that, but they let him. Would he have ascended to mornings at KIIS without being on that little show called American Idol? I seriously doubt it. IMHO Ryan is where he's always wanted to be, but there was a lot of luck that went along with his hard work. His goal from day one would seem to have been to get on TV and he did, co-hosting or hosting shows for many years that were not on for many episodes. Before Idol he was hosting some forgettable show on Spike TV and if Idol hadn't taken off, he might still be hosting forgettable shows. But getting back to his radio side, he's never been what I would call a great, pure disc-jockey, same for Howard Stern. Stern could never do what someone like Shotgun Tom or Jim Carson could, he had zero natural talent for it. But he found his niche and ran with it, lots of talk talent started the same way. They were not good music jocks, but went another direction and became superstars.

does anyone know the back story about r s 's time in san francisco?
