Season finale of Dallas on TNT

Ok, so for those of you in other time zones who haven't seen it yet or who may be taping it and watching it later, I won't spoil it for you.

But, hey, how about THAT shocker? Rebecca's father is....THAT GUY!! Woooooooooooo boy!!

I had missed the last couple of weeks simply because I completely forgot about the show, hasn't exactly been 'appointment television' like the original series, but I was able to catch up quickly given that they do about 25 minutes (that's only a slight exaggeration) of "last week on Dallas" scenes at the top of the show.

Other than the shocker I just mentioned....

-someone is running for something
-somebody is arrested
-somebody is murdered
-somebody is in the hospital
-someone blackmails someone
-someone makes love to someone

and, finally, Lucy and Ray Krebbs do NOT show up for a 10 second useless cameo appearance. HOWEVER, we did see a very sweet picture of Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) on JR's desk. And some other picture of Jock. And the old empty Ewing Oil offices.

See ya next season. ;D

Is it me, but it seems the new "Dallas" series wasn't very well publicized (at least in my area). I had heard very little about it and saw very little cross promotion across other channels on the local system here. I would have figured given the popularity of the original series that TNT would have promoted it much more.

I never watched the original series but I watched most of the new series. Who is the guy at the end that is Rebecca's father? What was his role?

Ken Kerchival who plays Rebecca's father Cliff Barnes

Right, but what is his connection to the family that he is going after South Fork?

Cliff Barnes was JR's nemesis on the original series, and eventually ended up running Ewing Oil when the original series concluded. In addition, his sister Pam was Bobby's wife and Christopher's adoptive mother (which if you're following along here means that Christopher and Rebecca were essentially cousins, even if it was through adoption).

I heard about the new "Dallas" on this site, and strangely, on "Morning Edition" the morning after the premier. But I didn't watch any of it.

Can't wait until January!

Me too!

I think the show made an especially good use of music in the final two episodes of the season....first using Johnny Cash's "When The Man Comes Around" in the ending montage in the second to last episode, and then using another Cash tune (whose title I forget)...in the final scene of the finale where John-Ross re-discovers his "dark side" in the downtown Dallas office tower side-by-side with daddy "JR".

I....for one....am praying for the health of Larry Hagman (81), and Ken Kercheval (76).....Without them....the show would be sorely lacking that certain "spice" that kept people watching for so many years the first time around!

And if you want to dig a little deeper, Cliff and Pam's father was Digger Barnes. The feud between the Ewings and Barnes started with Jock Ewing and Digger Barnes. Jock screwed Digger out of the company they had together and he also stole Miss Ellie away from Digger. Digger, and later Cliff, promised to get back at the Ewings ever since. Which is why Pam wasn't very welcomed in the Ewing family when she married Bobby.

Seems to me that the season finale had two good reasons to poke fun at themselves but didn't. Bobby went to the hospital twice following seizures . After Bobby returned home, JR signed the Southfork deed and gave it to Bobby. At once point, JR said "If you die, I get it back". Would have been a perfect time for Bobby to come in with a tongue-in-cheek line about dying. :D

Also, when JR returned to Southfork earlier in the episode and went to Bobby's room to see Bobby, Annie (Bobby's wife) threw him out and told him to never set foot in his room or she'd shoot him. Now come on! Could JR not had said something about being shot....again!...referencing, of course, the big Who Shot JR? drama from the very first season of the original show.

In one of the series' early episodes, Anne (who is armed with a shotgun at the time) runs across JR, who is sifting through a bunch of old items in the "storage barn". Upon seeing the shotgun, JR deadpans: "Bullets don't have much effect on me, darlin'." ;)

Damn, I missed that! I didn't catch every episode. Maybe TNT will rerun it before Season 2 comes along.

Either that, or you could catch the four most recent episodes are on TNT's website...

Viewers of the original show will remember that Rebecca (Wentworth) was the name of Pam and Cliffs mother...

And that Afton Cooper, Cliff's long-term love interest on the show, returned in latter years of the show for a few episodes, with baby "Pamela Rebecca". Afton is the sister of Lucy Ewing's occasional husband Dr. Mitch Cooper.

And Katharine Wentworth, played by actress Morgan Brittany, was Pam and Cliff's half-sister. She's the one who ran over Bobby and killed him back in Season 7.
