Season to date: winners, losers, and fence sitters

This was in my local paper this morning: an article by Verne Gay
of Newsday, in which he classifies the new shows by winners, losers,
and fence sitters. He does not include "Once Upon A Time," since
he probably wrote this before the premiere numbers came out, but
here's his list. Feel free to agree or disagree with him:

WINNERS:

2 Broke Girls (CBS)
New Girl (Fox) (he owes it to Zooey Deschanel)
Ringer (CW) (Sarah Michelle Gellar's show will, he thinks, get a full season)
The X-Factor (Fox) (he thinks Simon promised more than he's delivered, but
the ratings are good and that's what matters)
Up All Night (NBC) (NBC will take what it can get, he says)
Whitney (NBC) (ditto)
Suburgatory (ABC) (having "Modern Family" as lead-out is the key)
Revenge (ABC)
Person Of Interest (CBS) (clobbering "Grey's Anatomy")

FENCE SITTERS:

Man Up! (ABC) (thinks it may be gone this week)
Terra Nova (Fox) ("if only dinosaurs were in the audience")
Heart Of Dixie (CW) (needs some buzz)
Last Man Standing (ABC) (thinks it will go on)
Unforgettable (CBS) (respectable, not terrific, ratings--funny,
I thought this show was doing pretty well)
A Gifted Man (CBS) (saving grace may be its slot on low-audience
Friday night)

LOSERS:

The Secret Circle (CW)
Prime Suspect (NBC)
Pan Am (ABC) ("could be headed for a hard landing")

ALREADY GONE:

The Playboy Club
Free Agents
Charlie's Angels

Thanks for reprinting this for those outside of Newsday's paywall - which is expected to be built even higher next week, but that's a different story for a different thread... :-X

Well, I've have to say that Verne knows his stuff, since "2 Broke Girls," "Suburgatory," "Whitney," "New Girl," "Up All Night," "Revenge," and "Once Upon a Time" haved clicked with viewers so far thanks to the casting and writing. If anything it looks like the 2011-12 TV season may be the best one ever anyone has seen in eons.

Is this guy the regular TV critic for Newsday? If so you think he would know that Ringer and Secret Circle got full season pickups a couple of weeks ago:

I don't know how old this article was; the Greensboro News and Record has been known to report events months after they happen (to wit: they recently reported that Elon University was planning to add an early college, something that was announced in April). His reason for putting "Secret Circle" in the loser column is that it wasn't getting any buzz. He's probably eating crow about that one.

Ringer did get a full season pickup, and even though its competition are NCIS: Los Angeles, The Biggest Loser, and the Dancing With The Stars Results Show, it is getting pretty good numbers for CW.

As for X Factor? It will get there, because like most of America, I've already had enough of Idolmania now that Simon and Paula are together again.
