KPNW has a 1.8 share, tied for 20th with KING. The AAA station was in format for 16 days of the 28 day period.

KZOK zooms to #1 posting a 6.5. KUOW, KKWF + KJAC also up while KIRO-FM, KNWN, KRWM, KIRO-AM +KJR-FM tumble.

Yes, a big drop for 106.9 while Delilah and the gang at 94.1 continue to hold steady in the top 10. And very high numbers for The Wolf...becoming the sole Seattle country FM in town (well, KAYO/KYYO 96.9 doesn't count).
 
All the top stations are strong in the pariah 55+ demo. Maybe David's right. Young listeners get off on dirty words in lyrics, don't care about the news, and are leaving traditional radio more and more by the month.

I don't think that it's that younger listeners "seek out" songs with what older people consider dirty lyrics; I think their attitudes about what is dirty, what is acceptable, what is in bad taste are different. They see street language as authentic and real, and don't find it anywhere near as offensive as some of us over 50 or 60 might feel.

The feeling is more, "all the good songs are online".

I'm not offended. I'm disappointed. Street language and street "culture" are to be risen above, not wallowed in or, even worse, celebrated. There is always a far more descriptive and accurate way to express a concept than with a curse word or combination of curse words.

I totally agree. But I remember when as a kid in Sunday School a Bible verse might contain the word "hell" or "damnation" and all us little 12-year-olds would try to keep from giggling and getting scolded by the minister. That sort of thing is a sign of immaturity; I find extreme immaturity to a much older age today.
 
I use a few cuss words in day-to-day life, I'll admit. Not so sure I like to hear music loaded with some of the more extreme ones. I don't care to read a book laden with a ton of them, either.

Agree with CTListener's idea that art should rise above that, at least for the most part. If you can't get your message across without a thick layer of F's, MF's, and the like, what are you really saying? But I guess the younger generation has voted with their devices.

6+ aside Seattle remains a pretty consistent market with KISW, KQMV and KEXP on top usually and again this month 25-54. Way too soon to see if KPNW has had any effect on KEXP, with the format on for just two weeks of this book.

What seems a bit suspect is 18-34 this with KZOK and KEXP on top. Really? It isn't just Seattle where you see older formats like Classic Hits, Classic Rock or AC dominating 18-34. Does this even make sense? I can't imagine advertisers believing it.

My guess is you're starting to see classic hits/classic rock age out of the 18-34 demo. 18-34's, especially males, are turning to more music apps/streaming, while radio rock is skewing to an older remaining audience.
 
Even with KPNW coming on the scene, KEXP had a ratings gain. Pretty amazing what's happening there. This will be an interesting battle in the months to come. The much lower KPNW rating from The Bull to now, is the transitioning of it's audience. If it's even lower next month, that might be a problem.
 
Just curious if anyone contributes the drop in ratings for KIRO FM to Dori Monson passing away and the 12-3 slot now having guest hosts? Love him or hate him I think Dori was a huge part of the continued success of KIRO FM.
 
Other than what everyone else has already said, I don't see anything really surprising about this book. It's interesting that 106.9 is as low as it is, I can't remember if I've ever seen them that low. It's interesting that all current based formats went up this month.

They were probably lower when KLSY was ahead of them.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in the next book if you ask me. Brandi Kruz, who was filling in for quite some time, kept the same overall vibe of Dori’s show. Now, Brandi has gone back to podcasting and the current programming between noon and 3 is much more left leaning. Let’s see what impact that has on KIRO.

What if Jason Rantz moves into the noon-3 slot on KIRO? Would that bring back some Dori listeners, or is he too far to the right for 97.3's standards?
