Seattle-Tacoma Radio Ratings: October 2023

It is always low on that station for 6+. The only station people don't like to listen to that plays all-Christmas music is KIXI on 880 due to it being on AM instead of FM. I think they are probably high in their own demos since they keep the format probably not caring if it is low 6+ as long as it is #1 in their own demo cause they know they won't get higher ratings. KIXI never receives rating boosts due to it being on AM and usually gets the same ratings anyways.

'Christmas fixation' on the board may reflect the 'Christmas fixation' of the stations that seem to think that Christmas music boosts their ratings. If Christmas music does so little for a station's revenues, what is the reason for doing it?
Some stations sell discounted 'Christmas packages' during Q4 when ad spending is generally in a slump. This is also the best time when talent take extended vacations prior to the Winter book.

They do it because people want them to do it. It increases their 6+ ratings every year to #1 and sometimes even increases their demos if they are below #1. Right now KRWM has a 4.0 share but it should skyrocket to #1 around the December PPMS.
Good Lord. Don't you ever stop making crap up?

Many people really do want them to flip to Christmas by Nov 1 but some want them to wait till after Thanksgiving. Btw it is true that it increases their 6+ ratings every year same with The Sound, KCMS, and formerly 101.5 Santa FM (2016-2021) since they stopped doing it in 2022 and might not do it this year. I think the station usually bases when to flip based on when most people in the market want it to happen/or the average date for the requests to flip it to all-Christmas music.

My sister in law is in Seattle and I'd BET she's got KRWM-HD2 cranking in her car and her office every day.

Israel-Hamas war pushing KUOW to #1 this month. The most likely reason.
Nice jump for KISW.

I'd bet the 17th of Nov will be ho-ho-ho time for 106.9 and 94.1. Where I live, we honor the "wait until after Thanksgiving" approach. Both Cherry FM (classic hits) and Positive Life (CCM) flip here at that time. Although based on TV advertising, you'd think it was December 2nd! Every third ad seems to be Christmas if it isn't Limu Emu or another drug first.
I wonder if there will ever be a time when 94.1 beats 106.9 for Christmas ratings? They do a good job doing so at the regular format...

Impressive numbers for KUOW-FM. Seattle, SF, Portland have very strong NPR stations and strong News/Talk stations on the FM dial. (KCBS in SF, KXL in PDX, KIRO in Seattle). KNWN as an AM with a rimshot FM is having trouble competing. KWFF, KQMV, KISW remain stable and strong leading the market in most core demos book after book. December/Holiday will be dominated by KRWM as has been the case in Seattle for a couple decades now. Most Xmas music stations see a nice ratings AND revenue bump in 4th quarter which is why they do it thanks to holiday music sponsorships and promotions based on Miller Kaplan results in past years.
