You are reading that right, according to Robert Feder Nexstar is going to start airing select NFL football games on Sundays in his opening report of his Robservations column https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/10/11/robservations-wgn-radio-adds-nfl-football-games-lineup/ . He is saying that it won't be the Bears but starting this weekend it will be a doubleheader of football games, starting at 11:30 AM with Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs , and then at 2:45 Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets at 2:45 p.m. But where are they going to get the game broadcasts from, will it be Westwood One Coverage with their announcers, or will it be game broadcasts that will be the radio team of one of the teams playing? Robert Feder is also reporting that WGN Radio under Nexstar are hoping using these games will promote other programming on the station. How are they going to pull this off, will whoever that be calling the games will be instructed to prompt the radio shows on WGN Radio?

Select NFL football games coming to WGN Radio

No, because the games will be syndicated. Presumably WGN will probably reserve 10% or 20% of the inventory during the games for station promos.
Feder says the games will be from Compass Radio's lineup. This week Compass is offering Houston at Kansas City, and then Green Bay at New Jork Jets.
Do they actually think there will be alot of people in the Chicago area listening to these games? Perhaps it will be a larger audience than they currently have on Sunday.

First of all, the whole concept that an NFL football fan who doesn't already listen to WGN would give two rips about weekday talk programming for yentas and old geezers is preposterous!!! The folks who stumble upon these broadcasts who aren't already routine WGN listeners are not going to magically recycle into the other dayparts.
Second of all, few people in Chicagoland are going to listen to out-of-town NFL games on AM radio, especially those supplied by Compass! All the top tier games go to Westwood One. Compass basically is left with the hand-me-downs.
The point of this move isn't cross-promotion. Sean Compton must think we're all morons. The real point of this move is to save $$$ by eliminating local programming during a daypart where few people are listening to WGN.

Texans-Chiefs is a pretty impressive "hand-me-down," although it's of minimal interest in an NFC city like Chicago. I have a feeling the audience for out-of-market games, no matter the syndicator, consists mainly of gamblers and fantasy players with no real interest in the teams, just the spread or individual performances.
They will run pre-recorded promos during the local commercial positions.

You miswrote one of the teams, Dallas Cowboys are playing New York Jets, Green Bay Packers are playing Detroit Lions on Monday night football, and plus they aren't playing the Jets this year, the only New York team they are playing is the Giants.
Do they really care is a better question, as Nexstar is a Dallas based company, so it would be odiously the first 2 games selected would be teams from Texas playing. And the first person that replied on Robert Feder's blog said he is okay with NFL football games being broadcasted on weekends as long as the French gut doesn't come back.

Westwood One hasn't broadcast Sunday afternoon NFL regular season games for the past 2 years. Compass, Sports USA, and ESPN radio have those now.
Today's London game (Panthers-Bucs) was a Westwood One production, but that was a morning start for U.S. listeners. Special deal for Westwood One there? Our local ESPN affiliate carried the game, then went into generic ESPN filler talk after the postgame instead of another out-of-market game -- probably because they're also on the Yankees network and the ALCS game at 4 p.m. (and its pregame show) takes precedence.
My understanding of their deal with the NFL is they have all radio rights, and subcontract the Sunday double header out to Compass and the others. So the extra games are still theirs to do.
Westwood One has the "prime time" NFL games. Thursday Night, Sunday Night, Monday Night and the postseason.
I suspect the London games are a part of that "prime time" package, as Westwood One will also have the London game between Houston and Jacksonville next month.

Sorry about the misinformation earlier about the Yankees game. It was an 8 p.m. start, so I don't know why I was hearing ESPN talk after the London game ended.
