Seven Mountains Media is growing its footprint in New York’s Southern Tier region, striking a deal to buy the Olean, NY (market No. 223) and Elmira-Corning, NY (market No. 225) radio clusters from Sound Communications.
It is the third deal in the region Seven Mountains has struck since 2019 and, to comply with ownership limits, it plans to spin-off seven stations to religious broadcaster Family Life Ministries. In exchange Seven Mountains will also fill in its central Pennsylvania map, picking up an FM in the Wilkes Barre-Scranton market.
Here is what Seven Mountains Media is buying from Sound Communications:
- Olean, NY: AC “Mix 101.5” WMXO, classic rock “98 Rocks” WQRS, and country “The Ride” WOEN (1360). Seven Mountains Media already owns stations in the Olean market. Among those that it will keep are country “95.7 The Pig” WPIG, “Bigfoot Country” WOBF/WNBT-FM (97.1/104.5), and classic hits “Big Oly 1450” WOLY.
- Elmira-Corning, NY: “Kickin Country 105.3” WKPQ, AC “Magic 92.7” WENI-FM, classic hits “Gem 98.7” WGMM, and the news-talk simulcast WENY/WENI (1230/1450). Seven Mountains Media already owns stations in Elmira-Corning. Among those that it will retain are CHR “Wink 106” WNKI, and “Bigfoot Country” WQBF/WCBF (94.7/96.1).
