okay you guys Beat me to the Punch with Rutland.
I decided to take a 2 day vacation here in NEK of VT. left monday after work and leaving Wed
train is only 3o bucks!!!

WOTX 93.7 the Outlaw hit of miss not to bad of a station No Dj's or alerts on the evere weather
105.1 TOS... Eas's for severe weather pissed me off so much whats the need if their are live dj's to keep everyone imformed on what going on?

WWLR 91.5 off: I was on the radio keeping everyone up to date what was going on.. I wish I could run the 3,000 watts on generator Studios backed up with APC's but useless without a transmitter on the hill going..

Magic 97.7 ( the other local station without power) Live Dj's, they had their 300 watt transmitter backed up as well as their studios.
however, Weather Forecast not up to date...? WTF..!

106.3 the notch... audio sounds horrible...

because 'TOS is the backup EAS station (after maine public broadcasting) for other stations to monitor, plus they cover alot of area

Except in Portland these days. I noted that 105.1 translator I picked up at Hadlock Field on Memorial Day.

that p!ssed alot of people off when that jazz low power station went on, so much so that Clear Channel simulcasted the 'TOS morning show on their rim-shot talk station 96.7 for a while before 'TOS started streaming

Same thing happened in Keene, NH. Stations in Keene are (were) required to monitor WHOM. Now tanks to a Religious LPFM'er on 94.9, that is no longer possible.

I hope I can explain this right but,
I wish the FCC had a godfather rule of where a station is out of its rage, if it can prove it has listenership in a certain area out of its registered range, it should be allowed to have expanded coverage status to that area. for example, if it has Godfathered listenership to that area you would not be able to touch that frequency.

The word you want is "grandfathered". A plan as you suggest would cause far more interference problems than it would solve, not to mention how one would "prove" listenership especially in non-rated markets.
Jamie...more power is not the answer. Stations can't increase power to serve relatively few people outside its main coverage area. If you want some summer reading, try FCC Rules Part 73.

We (WDEV) were live and we had a meteorologist in house with calls several times an hour. We also had breaks ever couple of minutes to warn people, PLUS the obvious EAS alerts every 20 minutes that they were going off.

The EAS alert has become radio's car alarm.
Nobody pays attention to it.

Here is some sad commentary.

Over the years, radio, but mostly TV bounces on these things, crying wolf, going way overboard and......little or nothing happens.
The listeners/viewers have become immune, ignore or tune out.

BTW, are we still doing those silly Homeland Security Color Alerts?

Maybe you should contact the FCC and make them an offer they can't refuse!!
