Short circuit causes explosion in old Radio Centro building after 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Mexico City

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Mexico City early Friday morning, triggering seismic alerts on streets and cell phones, causing moments of panic among the population.

At this time, it is reported that a short circuit caused an explosion in an apparently abandoned building in the Historic Center following the strong earthquake that shook the nation's capital.

Multimedios reported that the incident occurred at 90 Artículo 123 Street, in the Cuauhtémoc borough, where an electrical installation exploded inside a building.

The building at 90 Artículo 123 Street, in the Historic Center of Mexico City, is slated to belong to the company until April 2025.

Note that those facilities were operational with some Radio Centro organization stations less than 8 months ago. But that cabinet transformer was a latent threat.

That building at Artículo 123 #90 was where I interned in 1963. It went through the 1985 quake with only minor damage, even though several buildings on the same block were destroyed.

It's hard to distinguish in the photo, but all the walls are marble, as are the internal floors. An all door and window frames are faux gold.
