Shortwave bandscans: 25 and 31 meters, 9/06/14 (9/07 GMT) 0100-0140z

11760 was RHC in Spanish most of the day, starting around 6am. I remember Sackville on 9625 , and Radio Nederland both Lopik and Bonaire on 11730 (later Bonaire would park on 6165). Of course Radio Moscow seemingly every other frequency, as well as the other Soviet bloc countries.

And RHC is still on 11.760 to this day. Mainly after 2200z with hours of SS programming. Late at night it used to be English and // to 6000 but that's gone now.

I stayed up rather late and did another 49 meter bandscan. This was recorded at 0812 UTC (1:12AM local time).

I heard RHC last week on 6000 in English on the Netherlands online tuner. Signal was rather weak but I caught a couple of positive IDs. Probably about 0200z. This one is also still a monster here in the Midwest.

Yes, all G5 with whip. RHC is heard in EE on 6000 and 6165 from 0100-0300z. 6165 is a very familiar frequency to me because Radio Netherlands used to be on that channel years ago. I miss RNW!
At 0500-0700z, RHC is EE on 6000, 6060, 6100 and 6165.

Thanks for the update on RHC. I remember that they used to run the two hour EE programming block on 6000 and then repeat it.....0100-0500z in all. I also seem to recall Arnie Coro (or someone) saying the array was aimed towards Montreal. Didn't RHC also have EE on 31m?

I caught RHC on 6165 from the Netherlands receiver as well, moderate strength but alone. (Hey RHC....the 1970s called. They want their rhetoric back)

9820 khz earlier in the evening, after 0500z to 0700z on 9550. Not on anymore in EE.
I still have my old Passport to World Band Radio book from 2008. Incredible how some frequencies, like 6020 for China and 9580 for Australia, just keep ticking 6 years later.

I'm just wondering

Why does a SW Signal goes out more that a AM or FM Sigmal

I hear sometimes WWVH on 10 MHz at night

SW gets out further than AM because the layer of the ionosphere that reflects the SW and MW signals is more effective at the higher SW frequencies than it is at the lower MW frequencies.

SW gets out further than FM for a different reason -- the E layer that reflects FM is lower in the atmosphere than the F layer of the ionosphere which reflects MW and SW. The F layer is about 3 times as high in the atmosphere than the E layer.

Very little groundwave on shortwave, however.

MORE bandscans!! These 3 were recorded at 0100-0145Z on September 28th (9/29 UT time) 2014. Sorry for some of the "moving around" noise - I was switching spots while recording in the park. Needed to have some peace and quiet without other patrons all over the place!
