Should WYAY-Fm Simulcast Atlanta Sports from WCNN 680 AM too? No, they should not. They shouldn't even be airing Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets college sports coverage. Of course, if WYAY does keep the Yellow Jackets because of the so-called contract, let them keep it ONLY until the contract runs out. I've noticed during last year's college sports seasons over at News/Talk WSB-AM/WSBB-FM there were times we had severe weather, and they didn't break in during any of the station IDs during the Georgia Bulldogs games. This occurred particularly during the men's basketball season. It never happened during the football season. It's very disappointing to be tuning in to a News/Talk station on a day and/or night forecast for severe weather, and the station is airing a sports game of some kind and the station never breaks in during any of the station IDs. News/Talk WSB-AM/WSBB-FM, in short, has been slipping when it comes to severe weather coverage. They may still have Kirk Mellish as a chief meteorologist, but they're not as fully committed to breaking in to programming as they used to be. They did break in to a UGA men's hoops game on Election Night for the U.S. Senatorial Election results in 2009. I was tuning in at the time, and I remember hearing the victory speech from Sen. Saxby Chambliss and the defeat speech from former U.S. Senate candidate Jim Martin, a Democrat. Then fast forward to this year in 2012, and they broke in when word of Whitney Houston's passing got out back in February. No, there wasn't a game on the Saturday the news broke. Anyway, this isn't New York City. We don't have a 2nd All News station. I know that All News 106.7 FM WYAY hasn't been perfect, but I'd rather be tuning in to them than News/Talk WSB-AM/WSBB-FM. WYAY's delivery of journalism has proven to be better than that of WSB-AM/WSBB-FM. The coverage of the in-state primaries back on Tuesday 7/31 was awesome. I have been noticing the alternating of weekend anchors, and I haven't been hearing Anna Hovind as much on weekend afternoons. I find her voice to be smooth and soothing. The only time I hear Pamela Furr is when she's doing reports. She's no longer doing weekend overnights. Instead, Scott Kimbler is doing weekend overnights, and Linda Bond is now doing weekend evenings. We need a radio station that is fully committed to breaking news and severe weather. If WYAY ups their performance more, they'll be able to keep the commitment. When it comes to sports headlines at :15 & :45 past the hour, WYAY can keep that. Sports news is not a problem, it's the coverage of an actual game that is. There are right stations, and there are wrong stations. IMHO, All News and News/Talk stations are not the place for coverage of games. Just put games on Sports stations and use music stations to relieve overcrowding of games on the Sports stations. What music station should the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets go to? The coverage should, in this case, go to KICKS 101.5. Q100 is inappropriate because of the station being hip. Journey 97.9 is not a good option because I just don't like the idea of putting coverage of games of any sport on an AC station including 1980s-1990s AC. It just doesn't mix well. 99X, I'm not sure if the Yellow Jackets would fit in there. That might be plan B if KICKS isn't up to taking in the Yellow Jackets. What about the Georgia Bulldogs? Send them to 97.1 The River. They wouldn't fit in at B98.5 nor would they fit in at KISS 104. If coverage of games of sports is a major source for revenue, let the All News & News/Talk stations keep the coverage of various sports teams. Just don't let it cause the station or stations to go downhill like the Braves did with WGST. Keep the Braves on The Fan and at Rock 100.5, and keep the other sports teams where they are right now. That is all. I apologize for this post being so lengthy.
