Lots and lots of potential there.

too much potential not to strike. During my early days (before radio was destroyed) KTHT was the dominant figure. Why would it not be? I've been living in Houston for 11 years now and it makes perfect sense.

Just another country station. I remember in the early 80's when Houston residents had a clear shot at KEGL.

not just another country station. they play stuff you won't hear on any other station in the market. this board constantly dogs stations for just playing stuff "in the box". now when a station uses a little creativity, you say they are "just another country station"? :'(

They really are getting more and more "inside the box" with their music. When they first came on the air; they were playing everything in their library. I heard songs I hadn't heard in ages. Then they boiled it down to a sampling of what we used to hear on KIKK back in the 70s. Now they have about a 20-song playlist; so you hear the same songs twelve times a day. You can listen for two hours and hear every song in their list. They've really gone downhill in my book.

That assumes you give a heck about country music. Were I still in Houston, I would much prefer to turn an antenna to the North for KEGL. At least Dallas got its heritage rock station back - disenfranchised KLOL listeners would probably give antenna dealers a brisk business if 97.1 was clear again.

Bruce, you really amaze me. We all know (or should know) by now that you don't like country music. So it's no surprise that you dismiss KTHT as "just another country station." And you have a vivid imagination. Face it, KEGL was never "clear" (for most everyone but you) in and around Houston before the arrival of the co-channel 97.1. You are obviously a DX'er who will seek out distant stations for routine listening whereas the vast majority of all listeners go for a local (or possibly a unique semi-local station) that provides a listenable signal to serve their needs.

That's reality, and here's more: KTHT started out great but Cox had no idea how to actually make it work in the long term. Allow me to paraphrase your comment by saying that Houston's 97.1 rim-shot is "just another country jukebox" that had potential at one time, but now there's a repetitious playlist, virtually nothing live and no excitement. Why is it that a company like Cox can't begin to understand something as simple as that?
