Simon Cowell At Center Of NBC “Further Investigation”

https://deadline.com/2019/12/gabrie...e-americas-got-talent-controversy-1202800895/

UPDATE, 3:05 PM: Now both NBC and Gabrielle Union are calling their sit down yesterday over America’s Got Talent “productive,” but it looks like all roads could lead to Simon Cowell.

“The initial conversation was candid and productive,” said the network this afternoon after a nearly five-hour meeting on Tuesday about the alleged toxic culture on the long running competition series. “While there will be a further investigation to get a deeper understanding of the facts, we are working with Gabrielle to come to a positive resolution,” added NBC.

Among a number of topics raised, that further investigation involves AGT creator and judge Cowell, who seems to be at the center of what went down during Union’s one-season stint on the show. However, the next step in the process for NBC is to have an as yet undetermined independent investigator prioritize moving things forward. How much of that process Cowell will be is not yet clear, we hear.

Allegations of Toxic Workplace is under investigation here.

so is this a normal scandal or a #MeToo type scandal. i bet it becomes one if there was some sexual misconduct was revealed to have been done there on AGT.

I don't think this counts as a me too scandal but more of a Simon Cowell wants a flavor of the month pretty face on his shows scandal.

It's more of a racial issue, with Union claiming she was criticized over her hairdos being too "black", and being offended over a Jay Leno Korean joke about dogs.
I think there was also complaints about control over what the women would wear, which is the closest to "sexual" that the complaints have been.

More on the fallout.

Speaking on a female empowerment and inclusivity panel at the launch of her holiday collection with New York & Company, Gabrielle Union alluded to her firing from “America’s Got Talent.” While she did not specifically call out the NBC series, Union’s comments marked the first time since her departure from the show that she addressed workplace inequalities in a public forum.

Giving advice on being a leader in the workplace, Union said, “Don’t be the happy negro that does the bidding of the status quo because you’re afraid. Don’t allow them to call you angry when someone else is called passionate. It’s terrifying. There’s a solid chance you’ll lose your job … I speak from experience,” she quipped, though never mentioning “America’s Got Talent.”

“Do your best because corporations want global dollars,” Union continued. “Do your best to try to hold the door open and hold people responsible. Yeah, I’m asking you to do the impossible … I’m fully aware that job loss is on the table … but if you’re not doing it, nobody is.”
