Sinclair's Ring of Honor coming to Destination America

Ring of Honor will premiere on Destination America on Wednesday, June 3rd.

Yes, you read that correctly. Destination America tweeted the news on Wednesday (5/27), with ROH’s official Twitter account re-tweeting the announcement.

ROH will air at 8pm [EDT] and will be immediately followed by TNA Impact Wrestling.

This is an unprecedented move, with two rival national promotions airing back-to-back on the same network. The network has reportedly been very frustrated with advertisers being unwilling to buy commercial time during TNA programming.

Destination America has yet to release an official statement regarding the future of TNA on the network.

From Raymie on TVNewsTalk:

Apparently the episodes will be the same ones seen several days earlier on Sinclair's own stations, too.

I'm a wrestling fan but never seen an ROH show. Unfortunately I had to downgrade my cable and no longer receive Destination America. I would've watched this wrestling block.

Ring of Honor puts on good matches. They have a working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

DISH had Destination America as a free preview for the month of April but now is only available to subscribers of America's Top 250.

I wonder whether this 26 week trial for ROH, is to determine which show to keep, either ROH or TNA. If TNA's ratings go up with a proper lead-in from ROH, maybe DA will reconsider it's cancellation of TNA effective September 2015.

Meanwhile. I heard NESN, the New England Sports Network for the Red Sox and Bruins, was supposed to air their sow, too. Comcast where I live carries NESN, but not with limited basic, of course.

For those who don't know, Sinclair Broadcasting owns Ring of Honor, and if you live in a market where Sinclair owns a station(s), it usually airs on weekends--of course, times vary from market-to-market. There are also currently five non-Sinclair stations (including one former Sinclair-owned station) that currently carry ROH's weekly show--WATL Atlanta, KVII Amarillo, TX, KTXD Dallas, WTTA Tampa/St. Petersburg, and WNDY Indianapolis.

From what I understand, the ROH shows that will air on Destination America will be the same ones that the Sinclair stations would have aired from the previous weekend.

Didn't Sinclair buy KVII in 2013?

On February 28, 2013, Barrington Broadcasting announced the sale of its entire group, including KVII-TV, to Sinclair Broadcast Group. The sale was completed on November 25.

Maybe Sinclair is using the ROH show on destination america to see where next to show roh's syndicated TV(I.e. sooner or later NYC, Boston, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia and the rest of the country will get ROH on ota TV) and who knows by 2016 DA would want a exclusive ROH show for their network.
