Six hours of live "Sportscenter"

Do we really need six hours of live "Sportscenter" shows from 9 am - 3 pm ET? That is what ESPN plans to debut on August 11, after originally planning to air NINE hours of live shows:

I've always been a little surprised that ESPN has stuck with its "SC" morning rerun format for years now, but is there really a need to have these shows live? And what does this mean for the future of "First Take"? Plus isn't ESPNEWS live during some hours of the morning/midday? I think they have enough live coverage already if you ask me.

I'm pissed the duo I was looking forward to the most has been cut because of the trim. Anyway, First Take is more of a talk/morning sports show than hightlight show. And ESPN isn't live until around noon. They may have someone on set for any announcements that may come up, but its the same loop that SC uses now it seems.

Not that different from the news channels going 'live' with coverage, although we'll see minor sports items elevated to
!!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!! !!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!! !!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!!

Thats what they do with ESPNEWS now. If news happens they just add it to the bottom line. Only time they break in to live without it being a scheduled moment is for a press conference.

Isn't "First Take" an ESPN2 show? I don't see why that show would be affected if the SportsCenter changes involve only ESPN, unless they plan simulcasting on ESPN2.

FYI "Mike & Mike" airs live 6-10 AM ET on ESPN2.

Yes, "First Take" is on ESPN2, my fault for not clarifying. I was just wondering if maybe they'd incorporate some of the elements of that show into live "Sportscenter" and eliminate it given that people will probably be more drawn to watch live "SC", and I'm guessing the mothership ESPN channel already has more TV's tuned to it than the deuce, which could increase even more with this. Just a thought.

Let's hope it stays a highlight show and not a sports morning show. I've never liked "First Take" or "Cold Pizza" before it.

I only watch SC when it is live. Mike & Mike and the first airing of First Take are live so I'd rather watch those cause the news is updated and the stories are more fresh. I wonder if I will watch SC more often. Probably not cause I am accustomed to watching M&M over coffee.
