slightly out of market, Garabedian sells CodComm for 3.2M

Anyone else catch news Monday night that Garabedian has offloaded CodComm for 3.2M.

Must have been a well kept secret as I called someone that works for him as soon as I heard the news and they had not heard the news themselves.... they seemed surprised.

I was going to post this too, however you beat me to the chase! BTW, it actually is relevant here, as John Garadedian is Boston Radio icon as well!

well he bought most of them in 2012 so the price of radio stations was pretty low by then, unlike the 21M dollars Boch got for his Cape stations in 2005.

He paid 2.7M for three FM's in 2012.... so somewhere along the line he got the 4th FM and added three translators. Seems to me there is not a lot of profit being made

"John H. Garabedian submitted the winning bid of $2.7 million during a bankruptcy auction in May for WPXC-FM (102.9) in Hyannis, WFRQ-FM (101.1) in Mashpee and WFQR-FM (93.5) in Harwich Port."

He was part of the music video station WVJV 66 with Arnie Ginsburg and hosted/produces Open House Party show .At one point when up in Burlington VT I recorded it for an aircheck trader off WXXX-FM (95 Triple X)

I thought that John Garabedian co-owned the station with Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsberg also. That station was a great idea! It was just unfortunate that the station was unable to make a profit.

They sold it to The Home Shopping Network, who has been the owner ever since.

BTW, is WXXX still broadcasting?

66 has been owned by Univision for almost 20 years!

confusing 66 with 68?

68 was owned by MRBI at one point, they lost it when they made some stupid decisions

yes I know it is virtual channel 68 at this point, I don't even remember what their true RF channel is these days

After researching this a little bit, Channel 66 (WUNI) is virtual. It is somehow intertwined with DT Channel 27 instead.
Virtual just usually means the old analog channel number. WUNI and WUTF swapped calls and programming a couple years ago. WUNI virtual 66, RF channel 27’s history goes back to WVJV. WUTF virtual 27, RF 19 goes back to WHLL/WSMW.

John GaraBCN
And WMEX, too. He also owned an AM in his hometown of Natick, WGTR, which I used to listen to from the North Shore when I was in high school. It had a primitive automation system that allowed John H. and Don Kelley (future PD of WMJX) to alternate long airshifts seven days a week.

I found this interview on YouTube a week or so ago when thinking about WGTR. In it, he tells rambling stories about his long radio career. I think this video starts where I left it, around the 49-minute mark, so anyone watching it ought to set it back to 0:00.

If I recall correctly, they very regularly lose good talent going to larger markets instead.

Couple of guys at Hubbard Seattle, and Jessica on The Bull are among the 95 Triple X alums on air in larger markets. Matthew Reid and Artie the One Man Party (from Essex) passed through too.

Sometimes, they miss though. South Burlington's Jackson Blue was deemed to be "not X material", and is now killing PMD on WKLB.
