So the Nexstar/Tegna Deal Is Done. What happens to KAZT and KPNX?

Now that Channels 7 and 12 are co-owned, what happens now? Are the two stations combined, both into one studio, likely KPNX's in the Republic building? Does Channel 7 programming get piggybacked onto Channel 12's full-powered transmitter, and the LPTV gets shut down or sold? I can't believe NBC would go anywhere, but how about The CW?

Nexstar is being forced to sell several stations, but KPNX is not one of them.

Nexstar doesn't own KAZT, they only operate it to a point that is allowed under FCC rules. KAZT is still owned by the Londen Media Group and Nexstar has an option to buy it if FCC allows them. Combining operations with KPNX/KNAZ is a possibility. Another possibility is separating KPNX and KNAZ, move The CW to KNAZ, put KNAZ on a Subchannel of KPNX, and use KNAZ to get retrans from Pay TV providers.

But if Nexstar took the "move CW once again" route with KNAZ, KAZT would just be left as a "diginet tree."
KAZT is a low-powered station that has marginal coverage outside of about 20-25 miles. Moving the CW and everything else on AZTV to KPNX's RF 18 would make a ton of sense.

Then sell RF 36 to ASU so they can get KAET off of VHF. I don't know what it would take to get RF 36 upgraded to full power, but it would have to happen. Right now, low power 7 on RF 36 comes in better than full power VHF 8, in the parts of my house where either comes in at all.

Since moving to South Tempe in '93 I have never been able to receive VHF 8 reliably (with indoor or outdoor antenna's).

I used to get it just fine living 30 miles directly north of South Mountain before that.

Currently, 12 News at 7pm is only 30 minutes on streaming. I guess it might expand to 1 hour, if it aired on CW7. Or, perhaps, it will remain 30 minutes paired with Family Feud or some popular sitcom or game show.
