So what do you think of the NEW 102.5 Boney Talk

I want to like this station but I must be getting too old and not thinking like the audience they appear to be going after. Bubba is good I kind of like Drew and Spice is doing a good show. I have not heard Artie and whoever.

It’s the middle day part that I find somewhat challenging. I don’t quite understand the entertainment value of having a developmentally impaired person being tasered, made fun of and called a retard. Is it me? Are rude and uncaring stunts like this the new face of talk radio? Cowhead, I know you have more talent than this. Billy? Nothing about his show sounds even to be something one should be proud of.

I am sure it’s just me. I must be totally out of the loop. I should just check myself into the home and have those nice young men in their clean white coats come and play cassettes of Lassiter and Neil Rogers and Dick Norman. Quick, someone make me a Black Russian .

They REALLY need to stick someone LOCAL in there from 12-3. Hell... I could do a better job than these clowns simply by cracking the sports section of the Times. Seriously.... out of the entire day, 12-3 was the prime opportunity to do something great. 970... National. 820... National. 620... National. 1010... OK, but really, who's hearing this station. 1040... a joke. Come on 102.... LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. and you'll win big.

Cox posted an ad for Bone air talent on their careers site on April 17th. On April 19th they announced that Billy Madison would do 12 - 3. It makes me wonder if this is a temporary thing until they find someone to bring in and be local.

That 12-3 show (at least on their online stream) is having terrible processing issues today from what I'm hearing from sampling it just now. The phone calls sound great on processing, but the on-air talent all sounds like they're talking through straws. Like a bad EQ setting or mix-minus collision is going on.

Can't verify if it over-the-air signal sounds this bad, but it's making an already terrible show sound worse on the online stream.

Hope they correct this mistake soon. The rest of the lineup is tolerable, well that being the local parts at least.

Byron

The OTA signal sounds the same. I was listening in my car yesterday and it sounded like they were doing the show by ISDN, or possibly a Comrex box. It wasn't terrible but I've heard better audio on Skype. You'd think they'd want to have better audio quality after spending so much time dissing the local AM stations...

I tried listening to Nick & Artie last night, I had to turn it off almost immediately. Artie is funny enough, but I couldn't take the constant eating sounds he was making... if there's one broadcast pet peeve I have, it's talk show hosts eating on air and making obscene lip smacking and slurping noises. To top it off he spent the entire segment complaining about how terrible the food was, meanwhile I was hungry and broke... I couldn't help but wonder how many folks like me were out there thinking the same thing...

I noticed the same thing on Thursday with the audio between 12-3. Also, the HD on 102.5 has been OFF the last couple days. Consider this guy not impressed.

Michael...I have not tased a mentally challenged person or anyone in the face.
I think you are confusing me with someone else.

Thanks
-Cow

I heard the retard face tasing thing on a promo for Billy Madison. I'm not sure if they actually shocked a retard in the face... but considering their hot topic has been, "call in if you've known anyone who's had a body part cut off", I guess I wouldn't be surprised.

No Cow, you just have "retarded news" and a total fascination is seems that this Billy person has his own staff "retard". I just think that you are bigger than that. I think (and who the hell am I by the way) that making fun of people who can not help what life has handed to them is not funny.

I hope that when you go home at night and say hello to your son you are thankful that no one is making fun of him. He is lucky, he is not part of the population of developmentally impaired people because if he was he would be a target of ridicule from people who listen to radio personalities who build their show around making fun of them. You not so much as this Billy person, but you are doing it. Oh and please don't tell me that it's just a "word". I know that you know better. Your an amazing talent and I know you are much better than this.

When 970 was local back in the day, I listened every day. Today....snore. :'(

When you break it down, the only thing that makes radio relevant in this age of iPods is having live and local content. I think it would be wise to find a local alternative for middays... but what do I know.

...for what it's worth I kinda like retarded news ::) Too bad Lauren O'Neil got canned, I'm going to miss hearing the same 3 stories twice every day. :(

I turned on the Eagle today and they were saying now that the bone doesn't play music they're the station for music. I was like huh? So I turned it over to the bone and i'm loving it so far. Tampa has needed a good FM talk station.

I tuned in during the first couple of days after the switch. Like Cedric and others have mentioned, the midday guy blows, and even mentioned that he was in San Antonio or wherever like that was a good thing! But of course, the conversation quickly turned to guys texting penis pictures to women. CLICK,...never going back, sorry. I know I should not have expected anything better.

I haven't noticed any major changes in The Eagle's playlist. It sounds like the same crap they've been playing all along. Same goes for 97X. The only change in music programming at Cox that I've noticed has been at The Bone. I've noticed that their new overnight playlist includes many songs I never heard them play before. 98 Rock has definitely made some adjustments in the last week. I wonder how long before they finally get around to adding new music on 97X/The Eagle.

Povich and Springer have viewers. The "judge" shows do very well. Guys, like us, aren't part of the target. You know you are out of key demos when, once upon a time, all the presets on your car radio had stations and now it is a stretch to find any to lock in. Like everything else, the envelope gets pushed and what is outrageous and hip today is mundane tomorrow. Look at the incredible success of the Q Zoo with Cleveland and Shannon. Would it succeed today. Probably not.

It is a matter of conditioning. The "market" is no longer conditioned to LISTEN. They can hear, but that's about it. How many people (men and women) who seem to NOT be able to carry on a conversation? They almost look past you while you're talking trying to think of what THEY are going to say when you are done. Radio stations have become so non-compelling there are no longer any reasons for people to listen for more than maybe 3 minutes.

Same as if someone handed you their iPod with their songs on it, and asked you to listen. How long would you keep the ear buds in? And if you had heard all 180 songs over and over..how many days would that last? Now how log if you tossed in a bunch of commercials? Now how long if all that was on the iPod was podcasts of people talking about penis related topics, and degrading mentally challenged people? Is all that so very entertaining? Does this have any lasting value? Does it not burn out rather quick? From what I hear...the Bone is starting to rot on the dashboard in the sun already.

You guys are right. Local content is king, and despite what Randy Kabrick has said in the past..even bad local radio has more chance for long term survival IF corporate will allow it to cook awhile, and not be so quick to plug it in, and yank it out. There are only a few Rush, Beck, Savage types..and they are jumping the shark.
