I look at a morning show as a recipe as in preparing food. Each member of the morning show is a needed ingredient to create the food you are preparing. All the ingredients make up the dish you are preparing and if you remove any ingredient, major or minor, you no longer have the same dish and if that ingredient is an important factor in the recipe, you alter the dish beyond recognition.
As harsh as it might sound, saving the show, less a major ingredient, is a long shot. When Leno replaced Carson on the Tonight Show, it became a very different show. Perhaps a fresh start would be wise. In any case, a terrible blow without the needed time to scramble and create a solution.
We have lost a living legend struck down in his prime. I fear as tragic as that is alone, I feel the survival of said morning show shall be equally tragic. Obviously a talented crew, the futures of the remaining crew would likely be pretty bright. I would imagine many would want to tap their knowledge and talent.
