So what has become of oldies 700 in dothan??

I think after they give away the million dollars, and hire Dick Clark, they may not have any money left for billboards. Is the sign on date still March or April?
Should be interesting.
Simian seems to be the only one that really knows.

This is taking to long in my opinion. I was in the market before Christmas. Very competitive and lots of signals. This slow rollout, better be the most amazing sounding debut. Remember, we have one first impression. I wish them the best.

According to "Simian", they will hit the air sometime in March. Look for them to turn the Dothan radio scene upside down.
Should be very interesting.

When I bought my last two stations, I ripped out everything, started with a cement floor and built three brand new state-of-the-art studios from scratch, including walls. I installed new automation, and replaced everything from microphone to transmitter at two stations. It all took a total of eight days, and we were only off the air for three of them. When we were finished, we had a perfect, loud, well-processed signal and great, brand-new programming.

My point is that is absolutely does not take months and months to "build studios" or "get everything ready" to sign on. It does, however, take some money in the bank and good planning. Let's say it takes them three times as long as it took me. That's 24 days. So theoretically, if they started today and took three times as long as it took me, that's still less time than "sometime in March".

I wish Oldies 700 the very best. However, I think there's something to be said for disappointment stemming from over-anticipation. When you anticipate something for months and months, you expect that it'll be better than anything else available in the market, and that it'll be perfect from the outset. I hope this will be the case here, or else a whole lot of people might be disappointed.

It does seem a little funny they are going to be dark for what will amount to about 6 months. Again I hope these guys do well, but something just does not smell right about this scene

No matter how great the new station at 700 sounds, there's no getting around the fact that the signal is too weak in Dothan to be competitive. 1600 watts at nearly 15 miles with the terrible ground conductivity here won't overcome the power lines along the roads and RFI from computers, TV sets, etc. in home and office. Abbeville and Headland are really the only places they will have a strong signal.

You can't be successful if you can't be heard. If it was mine, the first thing I'd do is get an engineering firm to figure out how to move it to the middle of town. Even if it was only 250 watts non directional, it would be tremendously better than what they have now.

I think they are trying to move the TX to Dothan proper. Someone at WOOF says they approached them about diplexing/combining on the AM 560 tower.

Diplexing 560 and 700 would be slightly iffy. I was once told that station should *REALLY* be 180Khz away for it to work great, but 140khz is surely doable.

I get the very distinct feeling that the people on here promoting and pushing Oldies 700 are their old staff members or friends. Not that there's anything wrong with that.. but do you see anyone other then them really talking about the palce in such a big way?

Lastest info is that Oldies 700 is set to blast off March 1, with Jack Gale 6-9AM, Kevn Larkin 9-2, and Chris Morgan 2-7PM.
Tom (O'brian)Smith is Chief Engineer, Lovey Gale-Manager, and Jay Braswell coming on board as Sales Manager.
Info is on their site: Oldies700.net
They are streaming now and will be streaming 24/7.

Jovial Jay in the Circle Citay.....could get interestin'
Can't wait to hear these guys.
A fresh/different approach to AM radio might make for fun listening.

Great news piece and video. Congrats to Jack and the guys. Can't wait to hear the station.
