So what's the FM portion of this new urban combo/simulcast?

From ALL ACCESS

New Pittsburgh FM needs Urban/Urban AC PD
by irockfm2 » Fri Feb 18, 2011 2:14 pm

Martz Communications Group is looking for a dynamic PD for our new AM/FM simulcast in market #25. Minimum 3 years of PD experience is required with the ability to handle an on-air shift, and to train/motivate staff. Knowledge of Music Master and BSI Automation systems, and all forms of social media, and web editing software. Production and imaging skills are a must, we are looking for a well round individual who can wear multiple hats and handle any situation is given to you. Send your air check, production/imaging demo, and programming philosophy to the Group Program Director - Drew Scott [email protected]. Martz Communications Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

FM translator W162AX, licensed to Oakdale to rebroadcast WDUQ, which Martz has applied to move to Pittsburgh. The translator would put out 99 watts at 280' HAAT. I believe it is moving to KDKA's stick.

So, by my count, the person they hire will be the Program Director, the Music Director, the Production
Director, the imaging director, the social-media director, the webmaster, AND handle a daily airshift as
well. When will they sleep?

The successful candidate will likely be in his mid-to-late 20s, unmarried and with no dependents, drive a secondhand car that's on its last leg, accustomed to a diet of ramen noodles, and doesn't own a stick of furniture.

The successful candidate will probably be the entire air staff.

My money's on Steve Harvey or Tom Joyner mornings and then aside from one live shift in PM drive, automation/VT the rest of the day.

That's W261AX, by the way. An earlier correspondent flipped the FM channel around.

Otherwise, I totally agree with everyone so far.

Incidentally, is it my imagination or is WCLG-FM 100.1 out of Morgantown, W.Va., coming in a lot stronger in the eastern suburbs in recent days?

That sounds like Drew Scott's job description up in the North Country of Northern New York, where Martz's "94.7 Hits FM" is a marginal rimshot into the English speaking western suburbs of Montreal.

Expect some folks to do VTing from afar. From right here in Cleveland, former North Country resident "Java Joel" Murphy VTs "Hits"' afternoon drive shift...his regular job is as the night guy on Clear Channel's WAKS/96.5 "Kiss FM" here.

its gonna be an urban ac i read somewhere

or will this be an urban who only plays hip-hop after 6pm ?

Does anybody know when the station will make its debut? What frequency is it going to be on?

Tim Martz told the McKeesport Daily News earlier this month he expected to close the deal with Langer within 45 days, after which he may flip daytimer AM 660 from syndicated talk to an urban music format.
"Absent anybody else flipping to that format by the time we are ready to go that is probably the direction we are going to go, be it urban or urban adult contemporary," Martz told the paper.
It would be simulcast and carried at night on a translator or low-power FM 100.1.

Hope that helps.

The "rimshot" in northern New York is a major player in Montreal...one of the largest cities in North America, by the way.

That's an interesting claim, but I can find no evidence to support it. According to the FCC's web site, WYUL's
60 dBu contour falls 25 miles short of Montreal proper. In the most recent Montreal BBM ratings, which ended
on January 23, 2011, WYUL is not listed among the rated stations.

Not sure of how international ratings work, but I knew someone who worked at 947hits.com ...that is the chr website. All their offices are in Montreal, as well as the sales force. All the remotes and advertiser's are in Montreal, as well. I'm not even sure of the calls...couldn't find any on their site...I know when they look for jocks, they look for good jocks, and they pay.

"94.7 Hits FM" is indeed WYUL/Chateaugay, NY, and is indeed a rimshot into Montreal across the international border.

Here, here's its Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYUL

...and its Radio-Locator coverage-for-entertainment-only map:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WYUL&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

Montreal is not listed on the map, since it's based on U.S. Census maps, but I assume it's just outside of the 60 contour.

I don't have access to the Montreal BBMs, so I don't know how it's doing these days, but its strongest signal in the area (for what that's worth) covers some of the most Anglo areas population-wise, and I know it's showed up with modest West Island numbers before.

The upshot? They're making some modest money up there, enough to have a Montreal sales presence, but they're not giving major indigestion to Montreal's in-market English language players.

I don't know how much they pay, but as I mentioned, Northeast Ohio's own Java Joel voicetracks their PM drive shift from Cleveland, and I have known at least one other jock who VTed for them at one point.

I'm pretty sure their live studios are in New York State, and they only have sales/marketing offices in Montreal.
