Some Nice CHR Success Stories In The Ratings (12+ only)

First of all kudos to New York's Z-100 and 102.7 KIIS-FM on another great book. It just goes to show how well CHR radio can work in the major markets.

Kiss 95.7 Hartford continues to surge upwards 12+, and is already in the upper 6's. these are some of the best ratings this heritage CHR has seen in years.

Another heritage doing exceptionally well right now is Lancaster's FM 97 WLAN. It's moved up to first place in Lancaster, and has also shows some good ratings in the nearby York market (most likely since 98.5 YCR bailed on the format).

Great book for Tuscon's heritage CHR, 93.7 KRQ, which is second overall in the ratings.
The new Hot Hot 100 in Altoona is now 4th overall, and continues to see its ratings share push upwards.

One of the panel's most unique sounding CHRs, the legendary 93.7 STW Wilmington moves back up to pole position in its market.

Great book for 102.5 WIOG Saginaw (or the Tri-Cities) as it's now number 2 in its market.

Redding's Mix 99.3 is holding its own and trends further upwards toward the top despite competition from a typical California Rhythmic CHR, Power 94.

Top 40 radio is alive and well in Concord as Mix 94.1 moves into the market's Top 5 while rival 105.5 JYY moves up in the ratings as well.

Mix 100.7 Terre Haute, one of the highest rated CHRs in the country, stays firmly in second place.

Can't overlook K-104.7 Poghkeepsie, which is Top 3 in Poughkeepsie, and number one in the bigger Newburgh-Middletown ratings.

It was also another great book for heritage 98.5 KRZ Wilkes Barre. Looks like this station might even move back up to the top in the next ratings.
Edited by CHRles on 01/18/06 04:43 PM.

Add

WZEE Madison. Still #1 in Madison.

WIFC Wausau (double digit ratings on a regular basis. Got near a 20 share once back in the late 90s)

WKFR Battle Creek-Kalamazoo (double digit ratings)

The ratings are not out yet for these markets (aside from Battle Creek where KFR is sitting nicely at #2) although you're right - these stations almost always get huge ratings.

In fact, I think it's their best performance since 93.7 flipped to Rhythmic.

The Lancaster ratings are so odd. WLAN is constantly going from worst to first and back down to worst, but I'm glad to see them back on top. They sound good.

Unfortunately, that came at the expense of younger-leaning CHR competitor (yes, there are still markets with 2 CHRs) 97 BHT, which took a huge hit.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Erie, PA CHR WRTS will be #1 again when that market's ratings come out.

You can count on the smaller markets for huge ratings. WVAQ is currently #1 in the Morgantown-Clarksburg-Fairmont market in West Virginia and going back to the fall of 2004, they've been pulling double-digit numbers.

Kiss FM in Dallas is tied for third overall with country KPLX. They're both tied for second overall behind urban KKDA among English-language stations.
______________

Yeah for real, WVAQ is an institution in West Virginia. How many other CHRs can pull off over a 16 share??!!

They are lucky though in the sense that teens, young females, and young adults in general don't have too much of a choice. There's an Active Rock station and a zillion Country stations (look at the ratings for nearby Elkins, Market #271) on the dial, but no other CHR/Pop, Rhythmic, Modern Rock, or Hot A/C.
