Well props to PRO-FM for at least breaking in to the annual Gio & Kim flashbacks with news of the explosions in London but the flipside is that it was back to the flashbacks again in progress. Very sloppy but it's no one's fault there other than the PD who even approves these "best of" shows because no one else at the station can really handle the shift. Here's a novel idea Tony. Do it yourself. I don't think the audience is going to flock over to Coast because the dynamic duo is on vacation for a week. Here's another novel idea: Gio & Kim don't both take the same week so one always works with Will.
Also Rick Everett has been around long enough & on the air enough to know that mornings on Cat Country sounds like WBRU on a bad day without Lemire. So put in a longer day & do the shift or in this case, you actually do have others at the station who can handle it. Mornings aren't supposed to sound bush league.
Maybe you don't have the budget to hire the people you'd really want to hire but you both have enough experience to work with what you have more creatively. If you can't figure out where to begin, start by listening to some surrounding smaller market stations who actually do it better. Market 34 is fine & dandy for those who think size matters but when size is a result of a growing population of non-English speaking people it means nothing to your stations.
I think we've reached a point where the real passion is at the stations in markets smaller than Providence. Maybe they just try harder to prove something which is ironic since many already sound better than they think. The smugness & lack of enthusiasm around here at some stations is incredible.
