some questions about 93.5 FM and 99.1 FM in the Inland Empire

What formats did they start out with? And where were the studios located? I know there is an old station on D street and Mount Vernon Avenue in San Bernardino, was that 1 of them? Its just west of the metrolink station right on the corner of d and mt vernon, I know cause the satellite dish and building are stil there to this day.

Any replys would be appreciated, maybe Jon Bruce or chime know?

Thanks ;D

I grew up in San Bernardino.

D Street and Mt. Vernon Ave. are both North - South streets. They're about a mile apart.

Check your map again.

93.5 is an Ontario license, and started off as KASK-FM, sister to KASK 1510 AM, also licensed to Ontario.
It's FM antenna was atop one of the then 3 KASK AM towers. Studios for both were at the transmitter site.

KASK-FM could be DXed in Orange County with a good FM receiving antenna, which were around in the 1960's
at places like Radio Shack. The FM was a simulcast duplicate of KASK 1510. The format was Top 40 in the
early 60's (63-65 years) maybe beyond in years in both directions. The AM and FM split ownership many years ago.

Today 1510 AM is KSPA and FM 93.5 is KDAI.

99.1 started as a fulltime religious station playing the older religious music with brokered time segments
sold to various Christian broadcasters. Mr. Goad originally owned the station licensed to Riverside.

The station was KBBL which stood for "K-Bible". The station was sold in the late 1970's
and became KGGI. The "GGI" looked a little like "99.1" and that's why those calls were adopted.

The transmitter site was relocated after the KBBL years and KGGI has been through several
ownership changes over the years.

Radio owl, wikipedia says that before KGGI went on the air in 1980, it played country music in the late 1970's, so when did they drop christian programming in favor of a country format?

Also 93.5 FM was KNTF between 1983 and early 1990, which played country, so what was 93.5 before KNTF?

KGGI was all relig. KBBL before it became CHR, owned by Mr. Goad who lived in the basement. It was never country. KNTF was KSOM-fm top 40 before country. In the 1960's it was KOYA with some Spanish and some a similcast of top 40 KASK 1510.
