Songs That Were Local Hits but didn't make the Top 40 Nationally

I can think of at least of 5:

Candy Girl-New Edition
Wishing On A Star-Rose Royce
Hooked on You-Cover Girls
Use it Up, Wear it Out-Pat and Mick
Its A Night For A Beautiful Girls-The Fools

I am sure that there are many others. What can you think of also?
 
Never Tell An Angel (When Your Heart's On Fire)--The Stompers (I think it was in the 80s on
the chart nationally)
Can't Find the Time To Tell You--Orpheus (remade by Hootie and the Blowfish for the New
England-based movie Me, Myself, and Irene)
 
Wasn't "When Things Go Wrong" --Robin Lane--a marginal national chart hit? I'm pretty sure it made
one of those Rhino "Have a Nice Day" collections. Then again that doesn't nec. mean it was a national hit.
Too bad I don't have one of those Billboard Top 40 Hits books to look it up...

"World Dance Party" The Fools
"Anywhere With You" Rubber Rodeo (I think WHTT used to play that one)

Sunny Joe White made these staples on his show: "Searchin'" by Luther Vandross, and "Together In Electric Dreams" Giorgio Moroder

Kiss played "Wildflower" (it was a remake) by Color Me Badd around 1994 or so, but IIRC the song (well, the Color Me Badd version) never even cracked the Hot 100

I'm sure there were a few New Kids On The Block tunes that Kiss and ZOU played 'round here that never charted nationally (can't think of any of the top of my head, thank goodness for that! ;) )

Not sure if "Hole Hearted" by Extreme charted nationally (although could have been a top ten hit for all I know lol), though I know it received a lot of airplay around here- who could forget that video with The Boston Bruins, great stuff 8)
 
"Hole Hearted" made it to around #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, I believe.

Another local hit... "Too Turned On" by Alisha.

There was an 80's song that went "I don't know where bad girls go..." something like that-I forgot the band and the actual title. The video aired on V66 alot , circa 1986 and it was apparently a local band with a catchy tune and a quick video made in Cambridge/Boston streets, with friends. Lots of local hits by World Dance Party, The Fools, I think didn't Til Tuesday have a couple of local play hits?

And of course, waaay back.... James Kirk's "Rhythm of New England" which I think Barry Scott has the last copy in the universe of that old "RKO Records"-their one and only 45- "On sale exclusively at Bradlees -99 cents". The guy's name was really James Kirk-the first thing we all thought of was Star Trek to which it was just a coincidence- and he did this really haunting and catchy number that came out, oh, 1978ish(Barry will correct me if I am wrong) abouts, and got a ton of play on the Big 68(obviously) and he did some on-air promo for it as well. James Kirk, where art thou?
 
Jim Kirk 45 has one side with an RKO mention (when it played music and didn't babble about republican love) and the other side had more generic lyrics. Very cool song.
 
Anyone remember watching on ch. 7, videos that WHTT use to simulcast? It was in the early 80s and I think that it was on Friday or Saturday nights. They would play the top 10 requested but would also highlight a local artist video.

I went to college in Boston from 1982-1986 and I remember Face to Face 10-9-8, and the Stompers "Never Tell An Angel"

There was this other song that I remember from that time period, that I never heard anywhere outside of Boston. I used to listen to WHTT and WCOZ back then.

It was a duet, a guy and a girl, and the lyrics went something like "baby please don't go...I didnt want to do it but I couldn't say no...."
 
Play it all the time. "I Couldn't Say No" is by Robert Ellis Orrall and Carlene Carter. He was local, now in Nashville area. She is from the Johnny Cash family.
