Sonics are gone, Can we please get some Blazer games on the radio in this market

The only radio station near here that is carrying the Blazer games, ok there is 2, but I can't get KGY am 1240 at all, is AM1030 KMAS from Shelton. Their signal barely makes it to Des Moines during daylight, and after dark they power down and then it's barely audible. WHO, AMONG SEATTLE RADIO, WILL ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE OF AIRING BLAZER GAMES?

Ever thought of looking online or satellite?

2 Things: One, I didn't realize KMAS and KGY were carrying blazer games, and two AQH mentioned satellite; I have had XM for a couple of years now and after the merger I can get tons of sports plus the NBA, I still don't watch the NBA because I won't support David Stern's league after wjat he and Clay Bennet and Howard Schultz did, but I do listen to some of the games on XM and I like it.

Was sarcastically mentioning this idea to someone...now wonder if it would ever work.

Repackage Trailblazers (Portland would LOVE this!!!) as the "Northwest Trailblazers". One homestand is done in Portland ... next in Seattle ... next in Portland, etc.

When I was originally putting it out there it was "because it seems one city can't support a team any more...so what if two cities each support half of one team!!?"

Of course a thousand reasons why it's looney...such as Skybox sales would be a mess....but what if....??!!!

Hear the cry, heed the call.......

I just wanna be able to listen in my car, and it's not safe to play with a computer while driving!

As a person who lives much closer to Seattle, I like it! But it's not gonna happen. Portland would never sign off on it. I think the reason Portland supports their basketball more than Seattle is because Portland doesn't have MLB or NFL>.

Re: Sonics are gone, Can we please get some Blazer games on the radio in this ma

I don't think even Portland has any say in the matter, as I believe the NBA, other than the agreement with satellite radio, rules limit market radio and television to 100 miles. The Commissioner could probably make an exception to the rule with the majority of the other team ownership approval, but I somehow doubt there would be enough interest to even place the topic on the agenda at an ownership meeting.

I think the 100 mile rule applies in certain cases, such as when we had a basketball team here. It would have been seen as "market stealing" to air Blazer games in Sonics territory. Now that there is no team here it seems to me the market is unclaimed territory, and the Blazers are the closest team!

I seem to remember the Blazers had an affiliate in Hawaii for a year or two in the 70s. If there's a market for it, it probably can be done, subject to existing territorial protection for other teams...

OK, the Seahawks and Mariners aggressively market in Portland, and have radio affiliates there, but the Blazers, in my mind, are a completely different animal. How many former Sonics fans really could switch allegiances that easily? There may be a few "basketball" fans (fans of the game, not necessarilly a team) who would listen, but I think it ends there.

Seattle has always kind of thumbed its nose to Portland. Don't think this one will fly.

Here are three reasons why Seattle fans might be apt to jump on the Blazer bandwagon: Nate McMillan, Brandon Roy and Martell Webster. I'm sure the Blazers would love to have a Seatle affiliate but who would be willing to carry 2-3 games a week for a team in another city?

I'm pretty sure it will fly! I already know some people who during the offseason couldn't imagine rooting for the Blazers, but now that the season is in progress, and the reality that the Sonics are long gone has set in, people are craving some basketball, and are curiious about the Blazers because there is some Seattle connection. Paul Allen, Nate McMillan, Brandon Roy, Martell Webster.
